106.9 WKVP weak signal

I was in the area around a few weeks ago, and noticed WKVP had a much weaker signal than usual. Is it still that way or were they just on a backup?

I can get WLTW when the HD is off and WKVP is off the air yay!
Yeah I know most do not care but I sure enjoy it
FM DX'ers living near Philadelphia I'm sure do! Outside of NYC, I can get some Philly stations when HD is off, especially 104.3 and 95.5 from NY.

I was wondering why I haven't recieved WKVP during the last few tropo sessions. Last Monday 5/27, I got WYPO Ocean City, MD in one room and WCCC Hartford, CT in another room instead.

Wild how WKVP just degraded like that. Their signal was always a blowtorch in South Jersey. 38kW IIRC.

If I had to guess, their signal is now that of a 250 watter at best. Would truly love to know what's going on.

With WKVP's weaker signal, the chances of receiving WAFX "106.9 The Fox" Suffolk, VA may have gotten better. It will be a challenge because of WYPO Ocean City, MD, but under the right tropo conditions, WAFX may be doable.

It appears WKVP is now back at full power. I was passing by 106.9 on my HD radio last night in Wilmington and it popped in with an HD signal and all the other HD's were in as well. They were the weakest Philly area station all summer as I couldn't even get a stereo signal. Not sure when this occurred as I'm not a regular listener to the station. Maybe it a Christmas present to all it's listeners.

Back on Long Island's very south shore was a terrific spot for coastal tropo reception. When I lived there. Still is, in fact, as evidenced by the only two L.I. buddies I know. He and she have turned into more of FM DXers than I ever was.
Could be they don't have much of a choice, lol. A school district two villages away had actual Fog Days for students before I'd moved to PA. And we know how stagnant weather has a habit of squatting for days. A non-DXing 'ex' told me she once was getting a 'Wavy TV 10' one afternoon. And she was inland more. But Long Island is only ten miles wide where she lived; a virtual flat stretch of beach.....
At any rate, one overnight several of us were listening, indoors, not too far from shore. Now, I understand that salt water has very little to to with warping FM propagation, but we were, at the time anyway, clear of most coastal land juts. We were getting scant NYC on FM but the dial was filled with virtually every FM signal from Norfolk/Tidewater. The pilot flare was country WCMS 100.5. Toward the fluttering and yawning end of it all we even heard what was then, iIrc, K-94 (93.7), and licensed to Elizabeth City NC, almost 50 miles to the south of Norfolk.
Your listening target The Fox should indeed be more than doable, WKVP and WMGK notwithstanding, on such occasions. Happy hunting and Happy New Year!
