Surprised they didn't have WXMI Fox17. Back in the day where you could get out of market TV station who didn't have WGN in midwest on cable or WKBD channel 50 out of Detroit as that was Michigan's Superstation like WGN in Chi & TBS in ATL. Adelphia Comm Cable in Kazoo didn't have WKBD did get WWOR from NYC before they became UPN was taken off on Dec 31, 1994. Cablevision did have WKBD they took it off in maybe 93 or 94 not sure on that as I didn't have Cablevision at the time.

Did WKBD return in Kalamazoo after it dropped FOX for UPN? I know Grand Rapids had WKBD when it was UPN. I'm unsure whether it was dropped briefly then returned after picking up UPN (Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo didn't have its own UPN station until 1999).

Outside of SW Michigan, most of the state had WKBD in the early-mid 80s on cable except for Big Rapids, Ludington, and Manistee (I think all three of those had both WTBS (at least Manistee had it dating back to WTCG) and WGN by the early 80s, while the latter two had WVTV in the 70s)

The Niles/Buchanan list seems odd. Network affiliates mixed up among cable networks. Usually cable systems would try to group the over-the-air stations together, so you could go from NBC to CBS to ABC to PBS without scrolling through all the cable networks. In markets where most stations were on VHF, that wasn't hard. But even in UHF markets like South Bend, they'd put the network affiliates in slots where VHF stations would usually be found.

Niles is about 10 miles north of South Bend, Indiana, so it gets all the South Bend/Elkhart stations. But because Niles is in Michigan, they give viewers some Michigan stations too, such as CBS in Kalamazoo and NBC in Battle Creek - Grand Rapids. So what's WLS-TV 7 Chicago doing at Channel 30? Chicago is about 80 miles away. I can understand carrying WGN, plus the Fox and PBS stations from Chicago But I'm not sure what the ABC O&O in Chicago is doing here.

Was WSJV pre-emption happy?

The South Bend/Elkhart market is kind of odd when it comes to RSNs. The Indiana side gets the Chicago RSNs while the Michigan side gets Bally Detroit only despite (possibly) being in the local market of some Chicago teams.

Nope, WKBD never returned to Kalamazoo when it was UPN. WXSP wasn't added until May of 2001 and it was channel 32 on Charter for 7 months moved to channel 16 from 2002 to 2014 now on channel 15 for the past 10 years. TBS moved to channel 32 from channel 16 in 2002 and has remained ever since. Another oddie was MTV had no cable box was channel 99 on Cablevision cable box was channel 57 Charter moved stuff around in at the end of March 2001 adding more channels to the basic cable lineup.

MTV was channel 99 with the cable box in 2001 in the fall of 07 MTV was moved to channel 36 where it has remained, heck MTV2 got a better channel slot than main MTV in 2004 was channel 304 when MTV2 was on Charter when they added over 100 channels when they bought Cablevision in the fall of 2000 and in Dec 2004 moved MTV2 to channel 43 which it has remained since.
