This is the Best The station has sounded in a long time. Great Music Variety. Shame they don’t have this much variety on a regular basis.

101.1 WCBS- FM. Memorial Day Mixtape

I thought if they could Play Some of the songs they played over the Memorial Holiday weekend on a regular basis They would sound great. So far they haven’t. Just the same old tired tunes over & over & over & over
They know through research that those songs are "one time oh-wow songs" but that if played more regularly would be a negative for many listeners.
Love to hate this station. How many more times do they have to play we didn't start the fire and when doves cry? But yes this weekend it was a great playlist. Im sure were only a few years away from them playing as many 90s as 80s per hour
I don't remember if it was a Memorial Day -- it was a holiday -- when I was doing some cabinetry/ceiling work at some house where WOGL Philly puts a nice signal in these parts. A quite listenable, happy gal called 'The Redhead' was spinning songs alphabetically by artist, and one of them was 'Morning Has Broken' by Cat Stevens.
That mild recall plus the thread posts here got me to thinking : did the separation of ballad-type songs (never mind waltzes, lol) from up-tempo stuff become a permanently segregated benchmark for all time?
Perhaps it just seems that way. First of the 'genre' I remember was The Lettermen. Bobby Vinton, Bacharach-David, a good amount of Beach Boys, Association, then Bread, Carpenters, the aforemetioned Cat Stevens, Carly Simon, the later Air Supply:
these 45 record acts plus enough one- or two-shot pop acts allowed listeners to the SAME FORMAT to exhale a bit.
Yeah, I know ; the music has changed. The generations have changed. But is it possible to carve a new niche, however flavor-of-the-month it is, or season .... take these unique weekends, stretch them a bit to add some variety to the weekdays ?
Another reason I ask is that entire demos are aware of what happened to the far-flung AoR presentation in the late 70's. For a few years there wasn't a single female over 17 left listening to Ozzy, Motley Crue, Guns & Roses -- all those hair bands; one year-long Rocktober roar. It was impossible for the original AoR audience (not the Progressive Rock one) suddenly to have aged, become AARPers and decompose in three years.
Just some senior-diet food for thought, lol.

Three Billy Joel notes from here, if I may.
1. He did some Allentown area show once, and reportedly was queasy about doing that 'living here in Allentown' song. But the crowd loved it!
2. I grew up, was schooled, etc. in a largely Italian neighborhood. Many Catholic girls. Every one of them found 'Only The Good Die Young' FUNNY as opposed to insulting.
3. Some lyric site was filled, having the devil of a time helping people with the name of a song that had the refrain 'In the middle of the night' throughout. And I was one of them ; briefly thought it Paul Simon-ish but knew it wasn't he. For what it's worth, the song that had everyone stumped was 'River of Dreams; from Billy Joel. Perhaps this will help out someone here with similar senior issues

Song itself isn't bad, station just destroyed by the overplay. Wish they play river of dreams or bring the lights down. Lite FM has lights down in the rotation
Billy Joel has a couple of songs that Roman Catholic & Italian People might find insulting. I’m both & got over it years ago. Let them play Billy Joel 24/7. 101.1 WCBS FM’s Variety is awful 😞 They literally play “Staying Alive “ every 8 hours 😫😫😫😫@dcowbiy 7

I don’t normally listened to this stuff anymore, because the current year WCBS-FM is not my cup of tea anymore after I stopped listening to Race Taylor after March 29th which was my final time until I flipped to Mike McGann the next week, and it’s way better than Race Taylor, and it has some great music than what you hear on WCBS-FM, and it’s a homage to these two defunct MOR stations in New York City like WNEW-AM in the 1970’s and 1980’s and WQEW in the 1990’s, and it’s now being heard on WLML’s “Legends 100.3” down in West Palm Beach, FL. I listened to Tony Bennett’s “If I Ruled The World”, Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me To The Moon”, Louis Prima’s “Just A Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody”, and more. Yesterday, I listened to “Summer Wind” by Lou Rawls which was a cover of a Frank Sinatra song long after his success with “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” and “Lady Love” in the 1970’s. Mike McGann is now a favorite of mine than Race Taylor, and I’m listening to MOR standards music on middays right after Bob Miller over at WBPM, and right before Chris Buckhout on WLNG, and that’s why I called the show “Stardust Memories” which was a homage to the original host, Dan Karcher when he was on WRCR back in November 2021 until January 2022.
And speaking of “Memorial Day Mixtape”, Remember the “Kiss-FM’s Mastermixes”? I haven’t listened to it since the station pulled the plug back in late April 2012. Here is a good example of this particular Mastermix from back in 1981 which was after WRKS’ formerly “Kiss-FM” signed on, and this was one of the earlier ones.

I have to ask Sir. Is there still a Hudson Valley Radio Discussion Board ? A Member recently Started a Thread About WHUD in the NYC Discussions. When I did that Weeks-Months ago. I was told to put it in Hudson Valley. I did but got a few Sarcastic replies. This person posted in the NYC section. There are no requests to move the thread & they got 44 intelligent replies
