What happened?

25 Years I've been here and I'm done. Adios. Every change has NOT been for the better! Quite the contrary.

I mean, its a message board, how could they screw it up so much you dont wanna use it?

Sounds like someone resistant to change a bit, maybe.

Nothings changed for me in how or when i use these boards

How many times has this board and its predecessors changed?
quite a few.

I started as a user back in high school in 2000 or so, whatever it was known as then

Just like any station, you'll never be able to appease everybody. If you'd rather have a board with a handful of posts every few months that's your prerogative, but its not what will increase engagement

More than it should. And outside of the founders and Frank, none of them were in it for the right reasons, because they loved radio.

The Flemings used the boards to build a trade publication and ran the boards as a dictatorship with their "Managing Board Editor" system before selling all the parts of piecemeal. RadioInk thought they could monetize the community and then shut it down when they couldn't. Frank stepped in a rescued it from death and rebuilt engagement.

But none of them ever adapted with the times. So instead of making gradual changes, we're now having to do things that make it more noticeable. Nobody likes change at first, but these moves need to be done to keep the site viable.

I know. It’s his toy and he can do what he wants with it. I’m just making my opinion known. By the way I’m surprised that he was asked to come here when he runs a competing board on the other website. But that’s none of my business. Carry on.
Gosh and golly, guy!

I inherited the board from Frank when he passed. I already have enough work with consulting in Latin America and my own website (link below if you are not aware of it) and could not take the full management of the site onto my schedule. So I looked for the best person... who is also the original founder of this site... to take it over.

And I helped put together a team with Scott, Michi, Huff, and Cyberdad to moderate.

So if you are "surprised" blame me: I was, for a couple of months, owner of this site and I chose to give it and its revenue stream to the best possible person. And the link to RadioInsight gives the significant radio news (not just a bunch of press releases) for those who are willing to pay a small amount for fast, accurate, well researched and well written material.

Chill, please.

I've been here since I first joined Gomez's board, one of the ancestors of what is this one today, about 25 years ago also. I even got banned by the owner during the "dark years"!

I really like Lance's thinking and most of the changes have been done only after lengthy discussions among us. Radio is changing, and I can't think of anyone more aware of where and how it is moving than Lance.

Change is often hard to accept, but it was much needed here because radio is changing.

Sadly, my memories of how Lance ran the predecessor to this board are mostly negative. Lance and his cronies struck me as overly defensive and unwilling to consider any differing viewpoint. There was an arrogance in their attitude that I found extremely distasteful. I've always suspected that I wasn't alone. To back that, I look no further than the many users choosing to - in spite of its many struggles - use this board for discussion over Lance's eventually eliminated alternative discussion board.

And so David, I find your choice extremely disappointing. As for the response being given to those who dare question Lance and his latest actions here? It only reminds me of the heavy handed operation of Lance's original board years ago. Cry about engagement and change all you want. I suspect that a good part of the disagreement currently expressed by some here stems from an earlier lack of engagement from Lance, David, et. al. toward this board's users regarding possible change here and how it should be handled.

You have your opinion and that's fine. But the fact is that, had Frank not given the board to me, it would have died with his passing. I looked among the people I know and picked those who were both willing to take charge and who had the deep radio knowledge to form a moderator base that would be fair and tolerant.

Just as I picked staff at stations I owned, managed or programmed, I tried to find people who, in their area of expertise, are more talented than I am. So we have people like Scott and Lance and Huff and Michi who have deep knowledge of various aspects of radio and who I know and trust.

My call and my ball to pass.

Oh, come on. I could easily be the moderator for just the "dance" boards. ;)
Every one of the "radio pro" moderators has decades of radio experience and understands the business as well as the various formats.

I am eternally grateful to the new management team. All of them have extremely-busy lives beyond moderating here, and I appreciate all of them more than I can relate. Having been a member for twenty years, this is my several-times-daily go-to.

And you likely know that you are welcome to submit suggestions and, er, well, even criticisms to us. ☺️

Were we perfect? Absolutely not. But keep in mind that I was a teenager when I started the site and at the time it was impossible to be online 24/7. Every moderator, including myself was a volunteer. There were no cronies and while some moderators were a little more heavy-handed and had to be checked at times we never allowed anyone to block differering viewpoints.

The reason most stayed here were the archives and the fact that people were blocked from even knowing my site existed. I also quickly pivoted because I knew there was no need to reinvent the wheel and went through a multiple year depression after first losing a close friend and what we had built to his parents with no explanation other than they seeing a business opportunity and wanted to rewrite history.

I'm sorry, mr. anonymous poster that you hold a grudge about how a site was managed by a teenager/early twentysomething over two decades ago.

If we were to have published a blueprint with everything we were going to do ahead of time, what would that have changed?

There still would be a vocal minority that complains about any kind of change. We've had lots of discussions to bring this site back to where it can be (and that's with a lot of niche social media groups) also out there now. If us not telling you that we moved a bunch of ten year old threads from a barely active sub-board to another one is your final straw, I'm sorry you feel that way, but is not having a unique board for Binghamton NY really going to prevent people that abandoned this site years ago from coming back. Radio in 2024 isn't the same it was back then. This site hasn't evolved with the times.

Also all of us admins sign our names to every post we make here and are very easy to find online. If you have an issue with anything we're doing, any one can use the private messaging function and reach out to us. Nobody has.

We all change greatly in 20 years.. i know for sure as heck i have.

Im happy this board is here, changes and all.. i might shake my first in the air, so to speak, but ill get over it and get used to it.

I was joking, of course. Vchimp could handle the oldies board, as well.
... not going there, no matter how much you tempt me.

I'm good with whatever you guys do! Glad to have this resource

At first glance, my thought was very nicely said and much appreciated on the part of Mr. Venta.

But then...

I'm sorry, mr. anonymous poster that you hold a grudge about how a site was managed by a teenager/early twentysomething over two decades ago.

Grudge? Is that really how you interpret my post?

If we were to have published a blueprint with everything we were going to do ahead of time, what would that have changed? There still would be a vocal minority that complains about any kind of change.

There certainly would have been. But this is a community. Perhaps I'm alone in this view but maybe a request for thoughts from that community might have helped some now disenchanted users feel more a part of the changes.

If us not telling you that we moved a bunch of ten year old threads from a barely active sub-board to another one is your final straw, I'm sorry you feel that way, but is not having a unique board for Binghamton NY really going to prevent people that abandoned this site years ago from coming back.

Where did I mention any "final straw" or personal dissatisfaction over the loss of Binghamton NY or any similar sub-board?

... all of us admins sign our names to every post we make here and are very easy to find online. If you have an issue with anything we're doing, any one can use the private messaging function and reach out to us. Nobody has.

As for "Mr. Anonymous Poster?" So you'll begin requiring real names from users when???

Didn't think so.

Sorry to say Lance, but at least in my view, you're the same overly defensive kid you were two decades ago.

Oh, well. Just as with radio itself, you can't make everyone happy at the same time. Adjusting and compromising is always going to enter into listener preferences. Some people just don't know how to do that.
