At 5PM may 31st 1996 the station we know today as Kiss 95.1 was born. The first song with the launch was Hootie & The Blowfish'es I Go Blind. The first live jock was Danny Wright.
WBT does. Big 100 back in 2022.Do radio stations even celebrate milestones anymore? V101.9 celebrated 30 years in January, but I didn’t hear anything about it
Great station and good music back then. They were previously several variations on the hit music format before rebranding to Kiss 95.1. A friend Reggie Blackwell programmed 95.1 at first when it switched from AOR to top 40 and the Kaplan's still owned it. I remember billboards saying "We got the Led (Zeppelin) out" Seems after the Kaplan's sold the stations (AM 610 as well) they went through many different owners. I remember one time they used a different satellite format each day asking listeners which format they preferred. I was one of the mix show DJs on the Edge. Recorded the show on VCR tape which they played back in the studio. There were other formats besides CHR.
Rock 40 in the late 80s, back to CHR, then oldies during the early 90s. Then they tried to say they weren't "Top 40" and called it "none of the above" but it was sort of alternative leaning. There was Double Q and then The Edge.
I was listening when they did that. They also simulcast talk station WCNT for a day.I remember one time they used a different satellite format each day asking listeners which format they preferred.
