NBC & Tennis Channel loses French Open tennis tournament rights to TNT Sports

You're right, it's more ala carte now, but that allows the RSN's or streaming service to charge individually more for you to watch the season of games. Again, gotta pay for that expensive rights contract from somewhere.
But is Peacock or HBO Max or Amazon or Apple or others going to make 2 options available to viewers - with or without sports? I think Max might be adding an extra sports tier but if others don’t they are still bundling and making all subscribers pay for the higher sports rights fees they are incurring.

I think it's becoming clear that in spite of streamer's wanting to get subscribers to sign up for packages, so far that wish isn't panning out. The only option, which is easily attainable with streaming, is allow for what amounts to purchasing a season pass individually. If you've paid big bucks for exclusive broadcast rights, you need to make that up somehow.
YouTube left a lot of money on the table last NFL season by forcing subscribers to sign up for a multi-channel YouTube TV package to get NFL League Pass. I'd be surprised if they make that same mistake this upcoming season.

Now that's the way to cover a tennis tournament! Plenty of live action available on basic "free" channels and paid streaming services, all 14 days. Too bad about OTA, but how relevant is OTA going to be -- especially in the money demos advertisers care about -- in another five or 10 years. As a fan who was often frustrated with the bizarre NBC/Tennis Channel arrangement, which was heavily tilted toward Tennis Channel, I'm glad to see coverage divided among channels most Americans with cable (or streaming) TV know exist. Whether this translates into more viewers remains to be seen.

I will say it's odd that TNT Sports is putting all its eggs (balls?) into one basket, though. Australian, Wimbledon and US Open remain in the ESPN family, while everything else is still with Tennis Channel. If Tennis Channel folds, as some here predict, I doubt that TNT would have much interest in showing the weekly grind of tournaments that go on across the globe pretty much year-round; those would be a much better fit on ESPN+ than filling eight hours a day on TNT or TBS or even Max.

Could WBD drop NBATV and pickup Tennis Channel.

Why??? As half assed as NBA TV is, it's still of far wider interest than Tennis Channel.
Unless Disney or Comcast takes on the distribution or stake on the network if the contracts are signed for next year's new contract. BTW NBATV is part of the TNT contract since WBD distributes the channel since 2007. As for Tennis Channel, either any owner of a Big 4 network in case of the current owner Sinclair sells any of the Big 4 stations or even WBD.
