Al Kresta

AL KRESTA.
When AM1420, WHK were at their best, they had the always excellent "Dennis Prager Show" on from 12:06 until 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. After that was the always interesting and entertaining "Michael Medved Show" from 3:05 until 6:00 p.m. Then, a few years ago, they dropped Mr. Medved for a non-broadcaster, Dr. Sebastian Gorka. This was, and is, a big step down, imo. So, when I didn't want to listen to music, I dialed around and came across AM1260, "The Rock", WCCR, Cleveland Catholic Radio.
While driving home one day, I heard "Kresta In The Afternoon". It's a most curious talk show in that Al would cover items in the news in one segment, and then a Religious topic in the next. Ever since I first started listening, I'm always interested in tuning in at 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday to hear what the topics are for that hour and to hear the top-of-the-hour newscast, which occasionally covers stories that others skip.

For a long time now, Marcus Peters has been filling in for an ailing Al. Today, Wednesday 06/12/2024, Marcus gave us the very sad, and depressing news, that Mr. Kresta is in very bad shape. Doctors have shared with his family that an aggressive cancer is growing so fast in his body that they can't keep up. Doctors say that he doesn't seem to be in any pain. Still, Marcus eloquently talked about his friend Al Kresta getting ready to cross-over to the next life. He asked us all to pray for Al. Even during Al's illness, the show continues to be called "Kresta In The Afternoon" as there was always hope that he could get better and return to do his show., which, as I listened, he displayed great passion for.

Thank you for your service, Mr. Kresta. You are such an amiable radio talk show host that I even listened to segments that I didn't have a big interest in.

We have a Catholic radio station in Columbus. For something different I periodically dial in and listen. While I’m not Catholic, it is a nice diversion once in a while as they explain the canons of their faith, albeit from a very conservative worldview.

You mentioned Medved. Many of the Salem hosts were very concerned by a Trump presidency. Most “got in line” pretty quickly once he was elected. Medved was an exception. And I think that’s what ultimately was his demise with Salem. I think he remained dignified with his commentary and concern. But I imagine listener pushback wasn’t pleasant. Probably the same from core advertisers. But I was sorry to see his demise.

One of the best shows to listen to, assuming that it is carried on the station you listen to, is "Catholic Answers Live" which is a lively, usually call-in talk show where listeners can call in with their questions. Some time ago, I called in with a question about Purgatory. They sent to me, free-of-charge, a nice book about it. "Catholic Answers Live" airs Monday-Friday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Keep an ear out for their fun, "Catholic Answers Game Show" where they will have a couple of guests or callers on who will field questions... sometimes deep ones, that they will have 10 seconds, or so, to answer.
