This, and it's why Nexstar stands a very very good chance of losing control of WPIX outright.

For the last time they dont want to give up NYC the biggest media market since they have an appeal. Nexstar has a lot of options now to sell some stations to rival networks and other rival groups just to get the WPIX license, Sinclair is selling them 30 percent of their stations, I doubt they're will be more consolidation and will change the dynamics in local news. This isn't over and Nexstar is not giving up in CW.

Well the small markets might not be ready to sell but the big markets do since WPIX covers only 6-7 percent so Nexstar needs to sell the big ones at least 2-5 stations as equivalent to WPIX's household reach. As for the FCC rules do not change, as long as big tech continues to trounce with money and power with ad tech, content and AI; it will create a concerning dillema being outdated and a radical change.

And the counties in those markets don't have to be contiguous, as Denver proves with that one county in Nevada that's in the Denver market.

(the weird thing about Denver broadcast media - TV and public radio - is that they seem to spend more time covering Colorado Springs, which is its own market, than Denver)

The FCC wouldn't care if CW programming is carried as a 'diginet.' Again, I have no idea where you come up with such nonsense.

Of course the FCC doesn't care whether The CW is converted into a Diginet or not (Nor do I expect Nexstar to do make such a conversion) I was only saying I'd be SHOCKED if the FCC allowed Nexstar to keep the Disney O&O's ** AND ** The CW O&O's in the same markets plus the Fresno duopoly & CBS affiliate WNCN 17 in Raleigh where Disney currently has stations (They'll have to do what Clear Channel did in radio after it merged with Chancellor Media & that is to cherrypick from their choices to see which one they want to keep & which one they want to spin off)

And fybush already covered Houston & Philly (Which not even I thought of) although I suspect Nexstar will be able to keep KTRK/KIAH in Houston & WPVI/WPHL in Philly with no issues as they have other CW O&O's paired with major network affiliates throughout the country

More than a "strong suggestion." It's an FCC order with a deadline - in addition to the fine, Nexstar has to either completely remove itself from WPIX or sell off enough small markets to make room under the 39% national cap in order to be able to acquire WPIX outright.

Every indication is that Nexstar will acquire WPIX and is already looking to sell enough smaller markets to open up cap space.

Well once upon a time, WPIX was among the stations Scripps bought while Nexstar completed its merger with Tribune. Not long after that (And uponthe completion of the merger), it utilized the buy back option it had & placed it under the umbrella of its current owner where the legal issues exist
