Two NEW TV stations! (Fond Du Lac Area)

Hi everyone - has anyone noticed that Channel 31 is on the air - it carries MeTV and all it's Weigel owned stations.

Another channel is TV 21 - and it contains a test pattern featuring call sign W21EF. It's good to see Fond Du Lac getting more options other than TBN WWRS or heavily pixelated picture from WBAY.

Nothing but a test pattern? Can you provide a screenshot or photo?

The station was airing a test pattern but now it appears to be re-broadcasting the main channels from the green bay market. The station does not carry any of the subchannels - just the primary stations. For those wondering - the call sign W21EF must be a translator call sign. It sure does appear to be a translator setup carrying the primary channels of local stations.

21-1 is WBAY
21-2 is WFRV
21-3 is WCWF
21-4 is WLUK
21-5 is WGBA
 
This is an interesting arrangement. At first, I thought it might be some kind of municipal translator authority, such as you will find in remote towns out West, that rebroadcast not for any profit considerations, but just to get TV into areas that otherwise wouldn't have it. But the licensee, Digital Networks-Midwest, LLC, seems to be some kind of holding company with outlets all over the US:

And Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, while it might be somewhat far from both Green Bay and Milwaukee, isn't exactly remote and isolated.
 
Digital Networks is the TV license owning company of the former Luken Communications, parent company of Heartland, Retro TV, etc.

That lineup makes no sense from them. I wonder what's going on.

I wonder if they did that to be able to get the license, possibly something about providing an essential community need. I'm just guessing.

But I would think they'd still have to get permission from each of the stations to retransmit their signals. That probably wouldn't be hard to secure, as I'd think any station would welcome the opportunity to get their signal throughout the market, and Fond Du Lac county is near the southern edge of the Green Bay market.
