Northwest Arkansas KXRD-FM 96.7 flips name to 'The Bull'

From a Facebook post from the PD: "You can livestream the new station via nwabull.com. It's a basic landing page for now while I work on building the rest, but you can livestream on the page. We'll have mobile apps, but it'll probably be a few weeks."

Launch

"Good times, great country"... I think this video ius one of the best sounding, well produced station launching mood setters Ive ever heard in my 20 year broadcast career. Way to tie it in to lots of local things and people... way to set the mood and attitude for the station right out of the gate and fantastic name for a station.

Fast forward to 9 minutes 10 seconds for the final countdown to the launch!

I don't get impressed often or by much, but this grabbed me!

"Good Times, Great Country" was a long time slogan KKIX (KIX 104) used in the Noalmark days.
Good Times (and) Great Oldies was used at dozens, maybe hundreds of oldies stations over the years before "oldies" became a dirty word. First time I've ever encountered it on a country station. Odd that people like Kathy Mattea and Charley Pride would be used in the promo. If the stream reflects what's going out over the air, this isn't a classic country station. First song I heard was "Even Though I'm Leaving" by Luke Combs, from 2019, then Dillon Carmichael's "Drinkin' Problems," a midcharter from this year. I doubt anything by Mattea, Pride or Hank Williams Jr. (also seen in the promo) will ever be played.

watch the video and youll see what its supposed to be

quite the smattering of 90s hits with some newer stuff

liek a combo of what was abc's real country network combined with new country.

If the station fits into what i think is the mood and feel theyre tryin to play, i bet you anything mattea and Hank Jr will get played

Yes, indeed it was.

Not sure when it happened, but KBVA has apparently flipped to classic hits from "Lite 106.5." I seem to remember it still being Lite 106.5 in March. So, Rox Radio essentially moved classic hits from 101.5 to 106.5 with a few years' delay between the move. Not sure what that accomplished.

And seeing where the current bull 96.7 PD comes form, the good times great country slogan makes even more sense

I don’t think Haystack ever worked for Kix, though McBride certainly did.

Will be interesting to see how this goes. Since KNWA became KKIX in the mid-80’s, no one has been able to touch it. It came into the market and quickly dominated over KFAY and KHOG.

I did work a tiny stint as a weekend part timer at KKIX well before ever getting into radio full time.

Having Kathy and Charlie was more about WHAT they said than who they are and definitely intended to show respect for them and that era, but outside of possible features or shows we'll generally be a country 90s to now station.

Having listened as much and as critically as possible since the calm after the storm I'm pleased with how the music mix on paper has translated to on air.

I'm going to try and find a place to host the video where it won't get taken down. Just some hooks and the thing gets pulled... Ridiculous. Thank you so much for the kind words about it. I put a LOT of work into it.

Are you sure it was the music that triggered the takedown? I've seen that Kathy Mattea interview before, and it wasn't done by an Arkansas radio station. I'm pretty sure it wasn't even done this year. Maybe the copyright holder for that interview (and the others) saw that use as theft.
