WBWD-AM 540 off air

Well they can’t sell the towers to raise money. They’ve already done that. An outfit called K2 Towers took ownership of both about a decade ago. Their deal allowed the station to keep using the tower(s) at no cost. A couple of years later, American Tower assumed ownership of the towers, and they probably offered the station the same deal at that time.
The taller tower of the two is the aux site for 103.1 “The Wolf”, WWWF-FM, Bay Shore, NY (formerly WBZO). But likely American Tower receives any rental income.
 
I don’t know when it happened, but 540 WBWD is back on the air. And the tower lighting must have been restored, as the FAA NOTAMs no longer appear.
 
Yup, as of this writing they are back on with full signal. Good to have a real low band AM back on the air; it's a great propagation test too.

In fuzzy recall, WLIX was a form of Top 40 around 1966. I remember a promo that ran for one of their jocks -- 'Salvatore F. Ginsberg is exactly what he sounds like.'
I worked there in 1969-70 when they were Beautiful Music. Other jocks/newspeople at the time of B/M were Roger Wade, Bill Coleman, Bob Gleason, Kenn Bell, Paul Guercio and Warren Greene. All throughout the formats back then they were 250 omni watts.
On reception: They were my first full-time paid vacation. I used the long week to drive to Florida. On the Buick car radio I heard them at the crest of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

I was going to say the thing... same with some of the vancouver area stations... And the music some of these "south asian" stations play is kinda neat to listen to. and ive sat outside listening to it for awhile from KVRI 1600 Blaine, WA.. it comes in incredibly well here
