Tune-in Radio app

A couple of weeks ago I was listening to Studio 108 a longtime all-request Saturday Night party show on WEBE 108 out of Westport, Connecticut. While WEBE is crystal clear on my car radio, it doesn't come in clearly (or sometrimes not at all) on the radios in the house, so I was listening on the Tune-in app.

I sent in my request via text. At 9PM the host Jose the Party DJ said "Up next is one by Dead or Alive" for Marc in Southington. The first 5 seconds of the song played and then the Tune-in feed switched to a commercial break. I tune my radio to 107.9 and hear my song request playing through the static. When the commercial break on Tine-in ended my song request had ended and the next song began.

Has anyone else experienced the Tune-in app switching to a commercial break at the wrong time?

P.S. I then downloaded the WEBE 108 app too see if that feed is different from the Tune-in feed and unfortunately the WEBE 108 app won;t open on my phone. I get an error message instead.

TuneIn seems to be running a 30 second adroll every 30 minutes or so when streaming a station. Music or other content currently playing be damned. I've stopped using TuneIn entirely because of it.

As speer mentions, TuneIn preempts the streams of stations that don't pay roughly every half hour on web browsers. When I've encountered that, the stream pauses and resumes in progress. I haven't observed that happening on the iPhone, iPad or Roku apps, nor have I seen it happen with streaming a station via TuneIn through Apple Music.

I agree it's irritating, but, when streaming at work, I don't have much other choice. I suppose there's no such thing as a free lunch. If I only want to have two radio tabs open on my browser, I have to put up with whatever the aggregators decide they want to do.

If you are on a mobile device, purchase TuneIn Pro from your app store for $10. It removes the entry and banner ads! Note that this is different than TuneIn Premium that is advertised in-app; TuneIn Pro is an entirely separate app.

Don't know if it has changed, but my understand has been that Radio Garden uses TuneIn's stations directory.
I don't know what directory it uses, but listeners and stations can submit stream links to be listed, too. The only rule is the stream has to be able to be listened to by anyone in the world, it can't be restricted based on where someone is located when they're listening to it.

What is TuneIn charging and is it worth it for a broadcaster? i'm looking into putting a client on most of the smart speakers and tune in seems to make that happen

If you're in the US, it's a $1000 per station paid quarterly.

Honestly, if you're an FCC licensed station you're better off going with Audacy and/or iHeart and just running the promos they require.

It's mostly unlistenable. So annoying.
One morning listening to Morning Joe, it was 15 MINUTES of commercials!
I've cut back significantly on my Tunein listening.

It's probably been a year or more now since I deleted TuneIn from my devices. I used to love it, but it became worthless with the adroll interruptions.

At least the Tom Hanks Route 66 Radio oldies program is commercial free, but TuneIn interrupts DeepOldies.com, Music Master and other oldies stations which I use to love to listen to.

Use to listen to a lot of Art Bell shows on TuneIn, until I found some better apps that don't interrupt with endless commercials.
