Alt 94.7 seems to be performing strong in recent books. Interesting since Alternative has been a struggling format in so many other markets. Also beating both 98.5 and 93.7.

It would be interesting to see how revenue compares to these numbers.

That's what happens when you have someone who grew up in the market and loves the music programming the station. Andy Hawk is the reason that station is where it is! I worked with him for many years so that's not just a random opinion. He knows this market and he knows how to program to it. He also produces Concerts In The Park. He gets out into the community and is involved with the bands rather than just sitting in his office all day looking at numbers. Also, most "top 40" formats completely overlook Indie Pop bands at first and Alt formats have been embracing them. Since most hit music stations glut their playlist with "safe" rhythmic or country/pop artists now....there is a HUGE hole that gets filled for Indie Pop by Alt stations now. Andy gets it......and THAT is why 94.7 is where it is!

From the outside looking in (I retired six months ago, if anyone missed that), it's nice to see the alma mater (KXJZ, CapRadio News 90.9) with its second book in the 3s. I think it bottomed out at a 1.6 last fall.

I'm puzzled by the sudden drop of KXPR, CapRadio Music 88.9. Friends there were telling me they thought the steady rise in numbers (they tied CapRadio News with a 3.6 in May, putting both in the top ten) was the new transmitter finally getting them needed coverage---but 3.6-1.3 this month is like going off a cliff.

When I see drops like that, I question the data integrity of the Nielsen report.

I don't have access to the data, i.e. the older reports, but I'd be curious to see how KXPR's cume has fluctuated over the last six-or-so reports. And compare that to the reported cume from before the new transmitter and tower. Classical is a TSL-driven format, and if there's something in the new xmtr (or audio chain, or some other component) that distorts the audio enough to drive down that TSL, that's likely to be your culprit. Maybe the STL?

Perhaps our resident expert, Mr. Huff, could let his fingers do the walking through recent books?

When you have a format like Classical, which is decidedly not a mass appeal format, it would only take a couple of changes in PPM participants to create a huge shift like this. TSL is definitely in play, and if one or two heavy listeners rotated off the panel and were replaced by people with different tastes in music, it's a double whammy.

Kind of like when you have a hose with the water turned up to full and then suddenly is turned down to a trickle.

As far as the audio chain.......to my ears (and receivers) it sounds fantastic....even more so in HD. My $.02

I'll take your word for it. I can only speculate. Even though I receive both CapRadio stations at my home (due to a quirk of geography), they're about 100 miles away and the classical station is especially prone to co-channel translator and first-adjacent reception noise.
