98.7 Rumors

So... There's lots of transplants in the city and many country fans in the suburban area with successful concerts at MetLife... The format is growing. How isn't Country considered??

Once again, it depends on the buyer. This is a station sale, not just a format change. The new owner will choose, and if it's a religious buyer, that's what the format will be. Just like WPLJ.

Because the format flopped on 94.7 in spite of multiple attempts by Cumulus and Entercom to make it work. And Entercom legitimately tried, removing the majority of Cumulus's national approach to it in the process. Still failed.

If iHeart saw country as viable they would have flipped one of their existing signals to it long ago.

Too bad Audacy is at their limit (and probably can’t afford to buy the station). It would be a great opportunity to simulcast WCBS-AM.

If that's the case, then FM will be the new AM

A concert with 15,000 in attendance is not the same as a full FM where a cume over 1,000,000 is needed just to be in the ad revenue running.

The market is increasingly ethnic, and Long Island has its own, albeit limited coverage, country FM.

Out of the list of 100 possible formats, put country at about 87th, right before "Mandarin Chinese".

Not to mention half of those 15,000 come from other markets. People come from Philadelphia, Hartford etc...

Good point.

I love classical music, but have rather specific tastes so don't enjoy classical radio stations. But I go to concerts where I know either who will conduct or what the program is.

Same goes with all varieties of music. Concert attendance is not representative of the potential for a radio station.
