Moving A Station Out Of It's Only Home For 4+ Decades

We have successfully taken the first step in the multiple months process of moving KSKO out of its only home in its 43 year life to a new facility. (pics below)
We have 5 and 2.5 ghz links up

We have an AKPRN News satellite receiver back at the current studio feeding audio over the link to the new location and Starlink at the new location feeding 100 to 150mb internet over the link back to the current studio

So we know the link works. It's about 1/4 to 1/2 mile by air.

When the 21 and 23ghz link gear comes in, they will get installed and the 5ghz link will be a back up to our main 21/23ghz links and the 2.4 ghz link will be a link to the school about 200 feet away so we can go live from the gym or lunch room for events.

We'll have new Wheatstone IP 12 and 16 consoles, upgrading form Wheatstone E1s. We're getting Zetta automation, upgrading from ImediaTouch. We're getting a Volt processor instead of the internal BW TX stuff and a DBX166xs. We'll haver RDS gear on the signal. We'll have a real studio clock.. you know, black with red digital numbers.

No, we don't own the building we're moving to. No i dont know what that whip style antenna on the roof is. And No I won't be living in the building, we'll find a place for me next year.
Our 2 massive satellite dishes are staying at the old site as there would be questions if we could get a clear shot from the new location because of trees and buildings. Our broadcast tower is staying where it is too, it would be too expensive to move for what ends up no benefit and actually a net loss due to line of site we'd lose.

And impressively enough, your Starlink antenna seems to have migrated from a bucket to a proper mount.
Your head must be spinning with all this new modern gear that's been properly installed.

Thats a new starlink dish.

The one in the bucket is still at the station and has been working great... service so stable the outages are less then a second every few hours and i never notice. so despite you wanting to poo-poo the install of the SL dish, it works damn well and moving it up on the roof wouldnt make it work any better and in fact would move it close to an obstruction, a tree.. which isnt a concern now,.

ill clear up and clarify.. i literally would not get one iota of better performance from my starlink by moving it to a roof.... to which my engineers agree

AKPRN and NPR. Both on separate satellites

Actually, the higher you can get the Starlink antenna, the fewer dropouts and the greater the bitrate.

I can tell you based upon the real life, live expierience.. there is not much to improve on.. it would be a herculean effort for very little return.

The outages are so short now and so infrequent i dont even notice them.

I have a completely clear view of the sky with zero obstructions.

We're already on a blade with the wheatstone E1.. one of the reasons we went with another wheatstone console.. spare parts.

All of the wheatstone gear will be at the studio.. we hgave some telos and STL gear at the old location

oh yeah, one night after mama moose and her baby sat at my current front steps for awhile licking up the rock salt, they mosied on down to the school district office and local school parking lot and did the same thing

At one time, the mayor worked for me... and one of my volunteers is a ham radio op, pilot, airplane mechanic, substitute teacher, something else im sure im forgetting and when i ask nicely, she cuts my hair ( and does a good job!)

So yes, we are/were the closest real life example to Northern Exposure youd probably find.
