92.9 Waco is now silent

So as of Monday at 6 am shooter fm has moved to 104.9 bellmead and 92.9 is gone from the air, so I’m assuming since it was sold to First Dallas Media that they’re going to bring 92.9 back on the air as a repeater of 90.9 KCBI? If anyone knows anything different, thoughts and opinions are welcome!

What number format are we on for 104.9 now, since Gary Moss acquired it? Seems like we're around 2 dozen flips by now.

I would expect KZBI to mostly serve as a direct feed of KCBI, with some Waco-centric programming interspersed.

It's hard to keep track of 104.9 -- "George," "Q," "the Beat," "Hot" (2 formats - R&B and then adult R&B), "Magic," "Mix," "Bob FM," "Star," "Kicker," and now "Shooter" -- and I probably forgot some.

Lol I’d say at least 10 or 11 and yeah I did some research and Wikipedia already says that 92.9 is a repeater for KCBI Already

I think you got it pretty good

One other question: KCBI also has a permit to construct KCBV 90.3 Riesel. There is a lot of overlap with 92.9, but the 92.9 facility reaches more people. They won the permit last year before announcing to buy KRMX.

1. Do they just not build out KCBV now that have 92.9?
2. They don't have two signals in D/FW...if they put KCBV on the air, presumably it could relay the "all teaching channel" on KCBI-HD2 90.9HD2 Dallas?

Don't know anything for sure and certain, Chip, but I suspect the for sale sign to be erected on the non-comm CP soon. It's no longer needed after the acquisition of 92.9.

The price tag for KRMX 92.9 was $1.35 million. Considering First Dallas Media only wanted the 50,000 watt signal and wasn't buying the format, that seems like a lot of money. On the other hand, the signal covers Waco and Temple. So I guess it will be financially viable,, simulcasting 90.9 KCBI Dallas.

BTW, KCBI is tied with KVIL for #19 in the latest Dallas ratings. It plays Christian AC music during the day with Christian talk and teaching shows in late mornings, evenings and overnights. Few non-commercial Christian Contemporary stations can resist airing the paid preachers and the money they bring in.

KCBI, as a non-commercial station, cannot charge the ministries for airtime. Any programs they air are on a 'share' basis. When a donation come in from the zip codes your station covers, it is divided by those stations airing the program in the respective zip codes. As long as you have enough coming in to meet the minimum (if there is one), you'll get a check monthly. KCBI is known and long established in Dallas/Ft. Worth, so I am guessing these programs generate decent income.

Given what we deal with as a society in this day and age, especially considering the recent assassination attempt, somehow naming a station "The Shooter" seems like a bad choice for marketing.

The new KZBI filed a digital notification with the FCC today. Have any additional HD channels appeared on the signal?
Can't verify, 🐸. No reception of Waco this morning. Even Waco 100 is behaving. No troubles with it setting up shop on K-Moo's front porch today.

I can verify KZBI is in HD, it sounds great and the audio is perfectly synced, which I believe is easier to accomplish with the latest generation equipment. I don’t think there is a logo yet and the RDS was showing the looped song they were playing, while the HD wasn’t. I’m sure that will happen in time.

Was also listening in DFW a bit this morning after 7 a.m. as there was heavy trop and it doesn’t seem to be a direct simulcast of KCBI. Maybe a delayed simulcast, as they did have the same morning show.

The tropospheric ducting was so intense this morning, I could barely get Waco stations in Waco. I couldn’t get Waco’s 95.7 at all until about 10 miles from Waco and I was getting 107.9 KDXX’s HD in Waco. When I got back to Grand Prairie, I was getting Wild 104 KBFM.

The ducting in Central Texas this morning was some of the most intense in recent memory.

Half of the band was being blown out.
