WHYI Y-100 Sounds different

A Voltair turned up to 11 is barely audible. The really bad ones are cranked up to somewhere in the mid-20s.

Dear poster, would you please provide a better description in your headline in the future? Great question, however. If you don't get your answer, I'd call the station. I bet they'd tell you and be in shock that you noticed.

I edited it. As someone who worked there, Y-100 was more than "just a radio station".

If I were to call the radio station, I doubt that they would answer it.

In its heyday it was a"way of life" in South Florida
I was the General Manager for WHTT, Y-100's sister Spanish language AM station. But when driving from Sweetwater to Hollywood to work, I would spend most of the time listening to Tanner in the Morning. I loved The Madam, Cox on the Radio, Mark in the Dark, Cramer, Kid Curry.

Prior to WHTT, I had mostly done Top 40 and Hot AC formats, and Y-100 showed me how much I didn't know!

I am not commenting on programming decisions, or expressing an opinion or conclusion about any radio station or broadcasting company.

Rather, I am curious about how this is perceived by you. Are you hearing pitch, tempo or both? Are those of you who hear pitch differences musicians? Do you consistently hear this on a particular station? Is what you are hearing likely to be subtle to most people?

Have you observed pitch differences on a particular song on different platforms? Or different versions of a song on one platform, such as You Tube?

I've been listening to Y100 for almost 23 years and it was slightly higher-pitched until May of 2008 when it decided to change to normal pitch. Then in January of 2019, it went back to its old self and it lasted for a year and a month. Two more years and ten months later, it reverted to slightly higher-pitched once again and today it is currently normal pitch.
