The jingoistic nature of the coverage, along with the mawkish sentimentality of the profiles, may be objectionable to older male viewers or those who follow these Olympic sports faithfully even when the Games are two or three years out. But everyone needs to realize that the target audience is not necessarily sports fans -- and certainly not older men. The open wallets and ready credit cards the advertisers are looking for belong to the sacred sales demo, 25-44 F, and the coverage hits that target consistently, Olympiad after Olympiad. Want to see Olympic sports covered strictly as competitive events, minus the USA USA USA cheerleading and a minimum of commentary and no saccharine feature stories? Get Peacock.Didn’t take long for the same old complaints to start.
This is precisely why I try to completely avoid the Olympics, and have done so for decades. US TV coverage is simply awful, especially the yammering commentators. Just shut up and cover the actual events. The jingoistic nature of the coverage, along with the mawkish sentimentality of the profiles, may be objectionable to older male viewers
Unfortunately you are absolutely right. The Sacred Sales Demo gobbles this stuff up. If you are outside that cohort NBC simply doesn’t care about you.But everyone needs to realize that the target audience is not necessarily sports fans -- and certainly not older men. There are more than a few US viewers living close to the northern border that prefer Canadian coverage of the games, which treats it as a sporting event and not a soap opera.Want to see Olympic sports covered strictly as competitive events, minus the USA USA USA cheerleading and a minimum of commentary and no saccharine feature stories? Some of the graphics may be from the IOC feed. I seen some events without the NBC announcers involved in past games and it was from the IOC feed from Peacock and Xfinity.Watching the Women's 400m Freestyle race & I'm not much of a fan of the way NBC shows the graphics on the bottom left with the swimmers, instead of numbering them by race position & changing it as the race goes along (ala NASCAR races), they only number the swimmers by their lane assignment, felt a bit confused watching it & seeing where the swimmers were & to know that graphically, you had to look to the right of the swimmers name & the line showing where they are.
All of the main graphics are from the OBS. NBC will ad their extra stuff on top. Some of the graphics may be from the IOC feed. I seen some events without the NBC announcers involved in past games and it was from the IOC feed from Peacock and Xfinity.
Because NBC never learns. It's not the "same old complaints" if the same old dog keeps pooping on the same old carpet.Didn’t take long for the same old complaints to start.
Learns what? To make huge money from attracting a huge audience? It’s almost like they know far more than message board wannabes.Because NBC never learns. It's not the "same old complaints" if the same old dog keeps pooping on the same old carpet.
Directv has the Olympic feeds on channel 205.DISH has added Olympic coverage from Peacock on channels 297 and 298.
NBC has the rights thru 2032.Isn't CBS supposed to take over the rights to the Olympics sometime soon?? I seem to recall news of that
Sadly this is correct.NBC has the rights thru 2032.
And probably for the rest of our lifetimes (unless they're hemorrhaging $$ & viewers with their Peacock streaming and/or ppl outside of NFL tune out NBC) considering how much in bed NBC & the IOC are being they pay the most for broadcast rights. Anything to the contrary is just rumors & probably from those who want the Olympics treated like a proper sporting event & not the entertainment show that it tends to veer towards, but that's what gets most ppl to watch.NBC has the rights thru 2032.
