If an AM station goes Digital can it broadcast an additional HD 2 like an FM HD does, or is that technically impossible?

AM Digital HD 2?

If an AM station is full MA3, then yes. Depending on the audio quality preferred, the station could have two music, or one music and two voice grade formats.
But here's the problem: All the existing HD tuners are only set up to decode one digital AM stream. Either all the existing radios would have to be replaced, or the firmware upgraded accordingly.
I had an idea to use one class D AM to "feed" 2 translators via HD2 on the AM. That would allow a land sale of one site and save one AM class C power bill. Apparently HD 2 on AM is not recognized by the FCC. I have been told that technically it could work but there are no receivers.
Since there are no receivers for an AM HD- 2 or 3, would it then be theoretically possible to use an AM HD-2 or 3 as a possible subscriber based service? I'm thinking of something like the 67 or 92 khz SCA services that have been used on FM, perhaps with a crystal-controlled receiver to the AM channel. Maybe another revenue stream for a fledging AM station.
That's a neat idea, but unfortunately, with all the streaming services out there, almost nobody would be interested in such a thing unless it can offer something the streaming services can't.
