July Radio Ratings

Surprising jump for MeTV FM.

Also new music between WTMX, WKSC, and WBBM-FM have been very close. I wonder if WBBM will do some retooling.

B96 has been slowly working more current music back into rotation. They also changed the jock lineup and the morning show.

And essentially all the listening is by people outside the sales demo. What little 18-49 or 35-54 they get is likely from "captive" audiences of younger people who have to put up with an older person's choice.

I believe MeTV FM's goal is promoting the MeTV product and to that end they are successful.

I believe you're older than I am and I'm pushing 70 with very little interest in what programing choices are being offered towards my demo which is zero. As you are aware, both you and I spend money on products that are supposedly being offered or geared towards the younger demographics that the broadcast industry goes out of their way to attracted. You have money saved up and so do I.

Unfortunately for the current day broadcasters, the desired demographic is getting their music and news through other means than over the air radio. Will add dollars that the broadcasters program for abandon the over the air product in favor of internet ads on YouTube, TikTok and Twitter (X)?

I know that the older 50+ demographic has been ignored for as long as radio has been in existence but my guess is that there would be a larger over the air radio audience if more programing were geared to an older demographic that brought up listening to radio. Think the broadcast industry is missing out here. I'm assuming once the old fogies are dead and buried, the current broadcast industry as we know it will be dead and buried as well which will be quite deserving for people that are out of touch with reality.

The issue here is that advertisers... at least the ones with agencies and in-house ad departments... do research and know that trying to sell to empty nesters with life-long buying habits is not profitable. The issue is not radio... stations would gladly program to 55 and over if there were advertisers out there waiting to buy. There aren't.

But I totally agree with you, JoeU, that MeTV FM is principally a promo vehicle for the TV operation.

Both the radio and TV operations are for people who are likely in their later 70's and 80's. I find nothing on either to be attractive as it is "too old" for me.

Recent on-air lineup changes at B96 appear to be working!

That's the smallest beauty pageant AQH share gap I've seen between Kiss and B96 in ages!

I think it's safe to say it's mainstream CHR with a twist now not hot ac anymore.

They were never a full blown Hot AC. Not recently anyway. They leaned Adult Top-40 in 2015. They sounded not too far off from WTMX for periods of time in 2015. I would have called it Rhythmic Hot AC in the last year but for some reason they get away with still being considered CHR
