July numbers are here

Some heads need to roll. I see a UNIVISION pattern here, San antonio in the dumps , Check out Chicago, San Fransisco all Regional Mexican stations taking a hit. KLTN not even in the top 15? But at this Point the new Univison Televisa company is not worried about the radio ratings or the product on the air.

They're waiting for the right offer to unload everything. That's my guess.

Sure opens the door for the new SBS format on 92.1 to make a splash. The MediaCo stations are also down.

I suspect broadcast companies might be waiting on the November election results before pulling the trigger on sales and acquisitions. Greatly differing regulatory environments are possible depending on which party wins.

Heads did roll already... another wave of layoffs.
Well, Televisa couldn't give less of a squat about Uforia/Univision's radio group. The former Televisa radio stations in Mexico were spun off years ago. It's only a matter of time until we see more Uforia stations being sold. Give it a good ten years, Uforia either won't exist or will be nothing more than an app.

As mentioned in another post, the spin-off of radio in Mexico was done to correct a major management defect of El Tigre. Moving the stations away from Televisa management was the only way to solve two decades of mismanagement and over-staffing at the executive level.

Radio is a key element to TelevisaUnivision's multimedia strategy, as it is a key part of a platform for locking in artists for TV, new media and concerts.

And that is a strategy that is far less ratings driven; it is synergy driven.

Possibly Hurricane Beryl having an effect?
There was a downward adjustment in the percentage of Spanish Dominant people in the market. This has overall affected all the Spanish stations. If you add the total shares, you can see the change.

As someone who grew up listening to them in the 2000s, it sucks to see all the years of success for a once great station like KLTN go down the toilet in just 2 years. Not even a 3 share, new low!

David is absolutely right, though. Just as recently as a few years ago, I remember all the Spanish language stations combining for around 21-22 6+ shares, now they struggle to even combine for 18.

a big head did roll in houston univision. a bigger head will be rolling in to takeover, he was in houston for many years till he moved to dallas.
not the right head. Cindy and Oscar continue to run the regional Mexican stations. I'm sure Guerra will be the next to go but these are just escape goats.. And MM in Dallas ..yeah i don't see that operation doing much better. Props to JD klol is now the number 1 spanish station in Houston. Jd can't say has a true knowledge of the format but they are doing ok . This will get interesting when RB gets back on the air.

Mexican stations are in México. You must mean the Grupera stations, called "Regional Mexican" formatted stations in the U.S.

The two Dallas stations under Mark are doing very well, even with the downward adjustment of the Spanish dominant Hispanic population by Nielsen. The two Univision FMs beat and tie the competitive Dallas station where J.D. is.

KLOL only looks good because KLTN looks so bad. But it is pretty much tied with the two former Liberman rimshots in 18-49, the key Hispanic sales demo. KLOL is way off its peak of two to three years ago, much due to the decline in Spanish language total shares and non-duplicated cume.

No one calls them grupera stations David. Grupera music is very different from what we play nowadays. 94.1 in Dallas is down. Seems who ever was let go in Houston has more of an impact in sales then Programming from what i just told.

ask the gringos on this board how many mexican stations they have in the market they work in. So it's pretty accurate.

"Grupera" is the name generically given throughout Mexico for stations that play anything from old Vicente and Bukis songs to Tigres del Norte to new norteña and banda and related fields. It is what shows up in industry lists and designations, right up to the CIRT website.

"Regional Mexican" is a name Anglo record store and industry folks gave to that broad genre, simply because someone suggested that "norteña is from the north, banda is from Sinaloa, ranchera is from Jalisco" and so on. So, it was, to them, music of the different regions of Mexico. They needed something to put on the display dividers in record stores to segregate it from pop, salsa and other kinds of Latin American music.

In México, "grupera" has always been more than the "grupos" like Bukis, Yonics, Temerarios, etc.
