I'm Really Fed Up With TV Media

do listeners complain about the political ads? i cant remember in my 20 years that it happens much.. does that mean it doesnt? No... i can recall less then a handful of complaints in 20 years. does that mean some people tune out and dont come back for awhile? sure.. but were also not talking as ran 3rd tier basement dwelling cesspools wasting frequency spectrum.. were talking popular local stations.

One of those complaints was from a candidate for the same office, who was running ads on our station like his competitor was.. but he complained his competitors ads were running way more often...... lol.. we laughed about that in the office

Politics should not be a business and that’s the problem.
It isn't a business. Selling ads supports the business that you value enough to participate in talking about regularly.
Make it a public service like it’s supposed to be and not who can make the most money in office and his country would be a better place.
So, you want commercial TV and radio stations to carry political ads for free? Really?
No reason for billions of dollars to be spent on campaigns.
Of course there is. Access costs money.

Maybe that’s the problem, needing political ads to run your business. People hate the ads and tune them out. Seems like a double edged sword. Maybe it is time for the industry to fold up and something new to take its place.
Then if political ads are SO unpopular that many viewers tune them out, then why do campaigns and PAC's spend most of their advertising budget on TV?

Name me a "free" country where there are open elections where there are no campaigns, not ads for the candidates, no rallies, no TV and radio interviews....

Why is that? What difference does it make to you that campaigns choose to spend their dollars on the form of media that gets them the best results?
It got way out of hand after Citizens United, and outside entities can literally buy local elections, but that genie won't go back in the bottle short of a Constitutional amendment

KPNX Phoenix is bombarding us with political ads, mainly for President and US Senate, during their Olympics coverage. Both parties are doing it, and it's already way out of hand.
I know once the election is over, then all the Medicare Open Enrollment ads start popping up until December. That, plus the ads for injury lawyers and the cable internet company whose chest-thumping commercials about their "superiority" are almost as grating as the political attack ads.

And yet, you still watch. That's what guys like me are counting on. And I thank you.

If you were an employee or management at a radio or TV station that was hoping for even a sliver of the total political ad spend in a market, you'd likely care less about how much is spent.
I can say as a professional I'd love and accept the money, but also say as a citizen $4.5 million to buy elections to close the public schools and hand tax money to McSchools and religious huxters is bad, and if it came to fruition, could even be bad for the community and economy.

From time to time I've heard a "disclaimer" on Christian stations for political ads, no doubt when listeners are exposed to ads for Democratic candidates.
Great Eastern Radio, the regional chain that operates five FM stations in my area (Hanover/White River Jct/Lebanon) has a disclaimer that it runs once an hour during every election season in which it practically apologizes for the political ads, telling listeners that management realizes that not all listeners will agree with the content of the ads, but that it's part of the station's responsibility to its service area to allow all candidates and PACs access to the public airwaves. Not a word about money or how much of same the station is taking in is uttered.
