It smacks of a placeholder call. Good Karma no longer needs 1050 and it would be wise for them to jettison it as soon as possible.

Good Karma To Lease 880; WCBS News Programming To End

I was thinking same thing. Maybe for Hudson Square where the Audacy studios are.
Good Karma has its own studios. It didn't lease them from Emmis. 98.7 doesn't come with a studio.

I'd think the CBS News content (not so sure about the news on the hour) will just move over to 1010/92.3 WINS. This isn't as awful as KGO in San Francisco having the rug pulled from under them so suddenly nor is it that big a loss considering there's another all-news station run by the same company, but it's still a tough day for NYC radio. Not sure if they originated this being that other stations have used the slogan, most notably WTOP in Washington, but RIP "Traffic & Weather together on the 8's" as WINS does "Traffic & Transit on the 1s".
Good opportunity to turn off the HD2 for good.
Many of the voices on WCBS are already heard on WINS, but yes, unfortunately it would seem that there will be some cuts.
One of the top-10 billing stations in the country shut down like it was a burden. Unless they get moved to WINS, the biggest loss could be Wayne Cabot And Paul Murnane who have one of the most entertaining morning shows in the city, far more than one might expect on an all-news station.

WINS currently carries ABC Radio News content. Perhaps they can find room to use both ABC and CBS, but I doubt it.
The only other station that could be in the mix would possibly be WOR.
A big part of the billing came from sports. I imagine Audacy keeps that revenue as part of the LMA. It's a good day for the Mets. They're now on an all sports station and share use of the ESPN brand.

Audacy will still be producing the Mets broadcasts, so I suspect much or all of their Mets baseball revenue will be unaffected.
Was there anything incorrect with anything I said? No. Let's face it: Old time WCBS listeners haven't been happy with the station running sports. There's an entire thread here on that subject. This station died for them years ago. This is quality programming. It's not WFME. We may see that pop up on 1050.
The KGO-AM is one I am familiar with. In KGO-AM's case they had to deal with KCBS Radio getting the FM simulcast on 106.9 FM for all news and NPR News/talk affiliate KQED-FM beating them in the ratings. These two stations became the top stations in the Bay Area. Also some cited the former GM of KGO-AM for not considering PPM and lowering the median demos.
It honestly looks like a randomly assigned placeholder.
Did Good Karma ever specifically say they were moving 98.7 WEPN-FM's programming to 1050 WEPN, or just that they were moving it to the AM band, and everyone assumed they meant 1050?
