You guys don't have a monopoly on opinions from "inside the industry" and your collective attempts to mansplain everything in defense of corporate radio get tiresome and irritating.
I have no idea what “corporate radio” is but I guess you refer to any company that owns more than a handful of stations.
The problem now is that radio is very hard and complicated to buy for advertisers. A countrywide buy might include several hundred stations and dozens of owners and many different formats. On the other hand, much of the Internet based audio and video services are national with one buy, one invoice and simple procedures.
As I have said before, in many nations of the world, true national radio services with one “station” reaching everyone everywhere are doing much better.
The fact is there are many people from "inside the industry" who post thoughtful comments on other platforms who are supportive of the talent that makes radio work. Who are compassionate about what happened to the humans affected by this incident and so many others like it. People who are putting in the hard work to make radio worth listening to in spite of their companies sinking under mountains of debt. The bankruptcies that were not caused by anything they are doing wrong but by the greed-driven Wall Street gambling addictions of the corporate boards.
Yes, at some companies the debt is no longer manageable. But at most, the issue is that media users are going to ad-free alternatives. And the money has gone elsewhere, resulting in an inflation-adjusted decline of about 65% in ad dollars since Y2K.
Tastes have changed. Many younger listeners thoroughly dislike old-style radio chatter as they don’t look to radio for “socializing” when they have many types of online types of human contact available. Needs for news, weather, traffic and the like are better served online.
This place is notable for being out of step with the sentiments seen everywhere else.
Your insistence in using old concepts to make radio great again have no basis in real needs by consumers.
