That phrasing makes it sound like a deal cooked up in a New Jersey restaurant that's off the beaten path.I thought it would take years for WCBS 880 to go away because of how well it billed. I guess Audacy got an offer that they couldn't refuse.

They no longer have to own a station and are assuredly paying a favorable lease rate that is less expensive than 1050's monthly power bill. Plus it gets them the Mets and Rutgers, which makes up for Good Karma losing the Jets.
Hopefully, WINS will bring longtime WCBS radio met Craig Allen over, not sure if they still do Accuweather.
Given how much Good Karma was going to be pushing ESPN New York as a digital property that has a radio simulcast, this rids them of a station inherited from Disney that has a substandard signal by comparison. There was no way they could be competitive with just 1050 and they knew it.So they may prefer to lease than to be owners? Ok I’ll buy that (no pun intended). But so far we don’t know if that’s the case.
Family Radio needs a new home for WFME as 1560 now has no tower whatsoever and no future to speak of. This is fairly academic.Plus they’d have to worry about finding a buyer for 1050.
This would actually make sense. Family Radio has been looking for a tower for 1560 WFME. Buying 1050 would solve the problem. Then, they can either sell or turn in the license of 1560.Family Radio easily could give Good Karma a few million reasons to sell off 1050, which is in their price range as opposed to, say, 98.7.
From the beginning, Good Karma had been mainly pushing the digital platforms as the primary way to access WEPN programming come September 1. Simulcasting it on 1050 felt more like a secondary part than anything.Did Good Karma ever specifically say they were moving 98.7 WEPN-FM's programming to 1050 WEPN, or just that they were moving it to the AM band, and everyone assumed they meant 1050?
This is sad. This is WCBS-FM with Jack FM all over again
Who would buy the 1560 license? Anyone who buys it would face the same problem Family Radio has--no tower site. This would actually make sense. Family Radio has been looking for a tower for 1560 WFME. Buying 1050 would solve the problem. Then, they can either sell or turn in the license of 1560.
If Family Radio wanted another AM they could have made an offer for 1190 which doesn't seem to be able to find a buyer. This would actually make sense. Family Radio has been looking for a tower for 1560 WFME. Buying 1050 would solve the problem. Then, they can either sell or turn in the license of 1560.
What’s the point of that? The assumption here is that 1050 will stay with the network and 880 will take the current 98.7 programming. Otherwise what’s the point of acquiring 880 (even if by lease) and selling 1050?
Even though both are 50 kW, 880 is non-directional using one tower while 1050 is directional using 3 towers. Therefore, better coverage for 880.It still makes no sense why Good Karma would go through the trouble of selling 1050 and buying or leasing 880. Sounds like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Infinity Sports Network and Fox Sports Radio have no NYC station to dump the national content on 24/7, and last I checked, they're both doing just fine. If ESPN's national spot loads air on 880, which is a no-brainer, then that's all they need. You make a good point. Good Karma sells advertising for the ESPN network nationally too, so they benefit by clearing the 24/7 network on 1050, while running the local on 880. Then simulcast at those times when 1050 runs the network.
Exactly. It's still a downgrade from being on FM but at least they have a better outlet to push the WEPN "ESPN New York" digital platform now.Even though both are 50 kW, 880 is non-diectional using one tower while 1050 is directional using 3 towers. Therefore, better coverage for 880.
Again, the mistaken idea that Jack failed. It actually got better sales demo performance than the previous oldies format. The Chang was motivated by “new knowledge” about the potential of Classic Hits based on the preliminary PPMtesting in Philadelphia in the very early 2000’s.This is sad. This is WCBS-FM with Jack FM all over again
And 880 is lower on the dial, making it even better.Even though both are 50 kW, 880 is non-directional using one tower while 1050 is directional using 3 towers. Therefore, better coverage for 880.
Perhaps Emmis's asking price is too high.If Family Radio wanted another AM they could have made an offer for 1190 which doesn't seem to be able to find a buyer.
Or duplex the two at one site. This would actually make sense. Family Radio has been looking for a tower for 1560 WFME. Buying 1050 would solve the problem. Then, they can either sell or turn in the license of 1560.
