CBS Mornings adding third hour

If they can make a few buck$ why not? NBC has the third hour of the today show
Affiliates that have “pay for play” programming in the morning aren’t going to give that up, an example being Great Day Houston on KHOU. I could see TEGNA clearing a third CBS hour on sibling KTBU.

The article itself says the third hour will launch primarily as a streaming play except in CBS O&O markets.
That makes sense, considering the number of CBS affiliates that have local news/lifestyle shows from 9-10 AM. In my area we have an hour of The Good Morning Show (the hour that CBS took when it forced WFMY to move CBS Mornings to 7 AM) and My Carolina Today on WNCN. The Gray stations in Atlanta (WANF) and Charlotte (WBTV) also do local programs, as do WTKR in Norfolk and WSPA in Spartanburg, SC. I would bet that none of these stations--or any others doing the same thing--would follow suit and clear the network. The situation is not exactly the same as NBC's expansion of the Today show, since I recall most NBC affiliates dropping or moving syndicated programs, nor do I think ABC would consider another hour of Good Morning America since it has GMA3 at 1 Eastern/noon Central and Pacific, and it also has Kelly and whoever her co-host is on its o&os and quite a number of affiliates at 9.

And whatever happened to CBS's plan to add a newscast similar to NBC News Daily in the middle of the day?

The trades dutifully report every idea people bat around over lunch as being “in the works.” The powers that be should, as a part of running the business, keep multiple options floating around for if and when the need arises. When it came time to move on from the Talk, it would make sense a news program was discussed. They went with the soap, good for them. If that succeeds, great. If it crashes, news could again be considered as a replacement among various options.

As for this extension of the morning show, good freaking luck getting another hour back from non-owned stations.

Vladimir Duthiers, who often appears on CBS Mornings, anchors or co-anchors the morning CBS News streaming, so he would be a logical cohost of the 3rd hour.

I could see KPHO (Phoenix) clear this third hour of CBS Mornings & push back The Price is Right an hour to 10AM, bumping Hot Bench off, perhaps maybe to sister indy KTVK. Wonder if KCBS (Los Angeles) will keep their 6AM local news hour or just let KCAL air it solely while simulcasting CBS Mornings as a whole.

Speaking of which, I dunno if WCCO might carry it, considering they have local news for what will be CBS Mornings third hour. Maybe get rid of it or not clear it at all

His goofy personality may be a good fit.
WBZ in Boston will aired the 3rd hour of cbs Morning and moving the drew barrymoore show to sister station wsbk
I wonder whether there would be a similar arrangement with WCBS and WLNY. What will become of Cindy Hsu?

This is from NY Post; “According to sources, (Tony) Dokoupil and “CBS Weekends” host Adriana Diaz are expected to become the new co-hosts of the third hour, which will broadcast live from 9 to 10 a.m. ET weekdays from the “CBS Mornings” studio in Times Square.”

Article also notes it is not expected to air in NYC.
