Labor Day Weekend Christmas music!

Looks like Magic 98.9-HD2 and co. will be firing up the Christmas music for Labor Day weekend. They skipped it the last few years, but it seems like Audacy is going back to Christmas every chance they can get, even with Magic relegated to two HD subchannels, the Anderson translator, and the Pickens/Clemson translator (and of course online).

Audacy seems to be trying to keep the Magic brand relevant and own all-Christmas. I just wonder if we see it pop up on additional translators or a certain chronically underperforming signal in the cluster around November 1st. Audacy has flipped a handful of stations since selling 106.3 and did not retain the branding and format of those stations like they did Magic. Just sayin….

What is the appeal of listening to Christmas music so far out of season?

I know some chains do "Christmas in July" to target bargain hunters who feel they can avoid seasonal price gouging (and seasonal crowds) that way.

But the spirit of Christmas in August? Sand, surf, and sunburns don't mix with that. Unless I guess if you're Australian.

Maybe back to 98.9 after the election with Christmas music.

You know what, flipping WYRD to Christmas music on November 6th and lasting til January 2 would the best idea Audacy ever could come up with.

As nice as that would be, I wouldn’t be stunned if AC comes back at some point - on 93.3. 93.3 seems to be in permanent decline with its current format.
