WEVA Emporia

Looks like they filed to sell/assign the license back on July 5th. The new proposed licensee is out of North Carolina.

Ugh, that's going to be a tough road. Good luck to them.

you know its a dump when everythign sells for $2500.

Only slightly less of a dump is WABV and it sold for liek 15x more. WABV hasnt made a dime of profit in 30 years!

Its more to the story than just $2500. Is it a uphill battle, absolutely but thats any station nowadays. Its definitely not a a dump in the sense of WABV.

The station was a time capsule, the building was well maintained but looks like they stopped doing equipment upgrades around 1989. had 3 transmitters, a Gates BC1J, a CCA AM1000D and a LPB 100w they used for post sunset. all 3 were in different states of "blowed up". The CCA filled the entire control room and tx room with smoke when it was first fired up after 3 months of sitting idle. They have a new TX in place.

I cant imagine WEVA has much money lately and that it came with the land.... WABV comes with land...... im not sure what transmitter is in there.. but the last time WABV made anymore was at least before the mid 90s, if not late 80s

The guy who owns WABV in the 2000s never did anything with it and never put any money into it.

Speculations...

Is WABV even on the air. I was under the presumption that It wasnt.

The speculation about WEVA was based on stats.. population, daytimer, no translator and knowledge. I know WABV first hand, unfortunately.

WABV has been on at some point somewhat recently, but i cant verify the immediate past

I live near WABV, it’s off the air. It’s been off the air for the past decade more than it’s been on.

It's amusing actually. When I plug Emporia, VA into Google Maps, it shows a photo of a Shell station gas pumps.
Most times it shows a photo of a local park or city hall.

Its been off air more than its been on in the last THIRTY YEARS including several periods long enough to have lost the license if the FCC knew

So why hasn’t anyone reported it to the FCC?

Because they depend on the licensee to do it. lots of stations fall into that same category as WABV

Useless daily trivia incoming...

Emporia, VA is the home of the Sadler family...of 1990's NASCAR fame.

The family has been in the gas/oil business (Shell...) for decades. The Pilot truck stop? Yep, that too.
