ABC15 on Wikipedia

Hello Friends,
KNXV-TV is the September 9 2024 featured article on Wikipedia.
The page discusses its independent beginning, ABC affiliation, news quality, and recent awards.
As with anything, the page could use some cleaning up: says that Susan Casper co-hosts Sonoran Living.

Blame me! Obviously, some things might have changed and I was busy fixing up other areas. I did the bulk of the work to get this to Good Article (a tier below Featured Article) in late 2021 and early 2022. If there is a more updated source I can link to, please send it my way!

This is one of five Featured Article TV stations that I have written or co-written. The others are longer articles, all in other cities: WBPX Boston, WSNS Chicago, KCPQ Seattle, WWJ-TV Detroit (with @Nathan Obral). The next page I have up for review for featured article status is KARE in Minneapolis. I also just had KEXP-FM Seattle promoted to Featured Article, the first new Wikipedia FA on a radio station in over 10 years.

In Phoenix, 3, 5, 10, and 12 are all Good Articles, and 2, 7, and 61 have been written to that standard, plus KFYI, KTAR, and KGME. I need to do 8 and had partly improved 45, 33 and 39 pose some issues in terms of depth and things I can say about them, and 51 is just plain undoable at this level due to its age and lack of local presence. The major Tucson stations (4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 18, 40) have all been improved. I cannot do Yuma satisfactorily due to newspaper availability gaps.

Unless my aging memory is getting really fuzzy, on 9/11/2001, KPNX/12 aired NBC News coverage while KPPX/51 aired 12 News local coverage. Both aired on the Channel 12 website from what I remember, and were still doing so when I got home from work that afternoon and was able to check the TV.

Thanks for clarifying about Yuma. Having read most of these wikipedia articles, I was wondering why the Yuma stations didn't have more extensive articles and why the coverage in existing articles was fuzzy and vague at times.

NewspaperArchive has a major gap 1988–95, which includes the sign-on of KYMA and two affiliation switches there.

The Yuma area (including the Imperial Valley) had television beginning in 1953.
Douglas also had an independent TV station briefly in 1961. Flagstaff had one from 61-63 (Channel 2 (KOAI/KNAZ) didn't go on the air until 1970)

I would love to write about KCDA, but I need the Douglas Dispatch to do it, and it's not available for the years I need. That station was not only obscure but started by a company whose primary line of business was TV stations on the cheap (Electron Corporation).

I did a lot of research and writing for the KIVA (TV) entry. Newspaper Archives was my best friend.
