New iHeart/Atlanta Programmer

Jill Strada is the new Senior VP/Programming at iHeart/Atlanta.

Her predecessor, Meg Stevens, has "moved into an advisory role in the company," according to the press release.

The stations listed in Ms. Strada's background are top notch and more on the Rhythmic/Urban side of things.

Bringing up the cluster's ratings will not be an easy job, especially in light of budgets and syndication requirements. The Bull, Power and The Beat all seem to be underperforming.

Will Ms Strada actually work in the "building of career death" here in Atlanta? I wonder what kind of budget she will have? Will she get to spin the format wheel?

Of course we don't see any of the money demos but 6+ IMHO there is some room for improvement on just about every signal iHeart has in Atlanta.

Will she get to spin the format wheel?
Well, they're certainly not going to flip 94.9, 96.1 or 105.7. Possibly 105.3 but not sure what they could do with that pretty much Urbanish signal. I suppose they could do a format that no one else is doing if they could run it cheaply. Adult Hits comes to mind.

One thing is for sure, Jill is an excellent programmer.

You're all not taking into account how the duties of the job are rapidly changing at iHeart. Local PDs do not do much "programming" anymore. Music logs, and imaging are all done on the national level as are much of the on-air lineups. The position is pretty much to oversee local marketing endeavors more than any brand strategy or day-to-day programming.

So you take the blame for decisions made in TX (or where ever).

They moved Beat to 96.1 and it is up an amazing 0.1 while they put power on what should be considered an urban signal and it went from 1.8 to .4 a 75%+ loss.(Six +). If she improves Beat it won't be because of the market covering 96.1 signal.

Urban in Atlanta is not as easy as loading up the system with tunes and voicetraking folks from somewhere else. I aways thought iHeart could look at what zip codes potential P1 listeners lived. 104 was beating the Beat on 105.3 with about the same signal.

IMHO iHeart should have gotten a good morning show for the Beat last year. I bet I could scout the clubs and found "communicators" that would perform better than what's on 96.1 mornings now.
