Me(TV Music) & TJ Arrive In Phoenix

Seems to me those two things appeal to completely different audiences. That's just me. If I was playing 60s/70s oldies, the last thing I'd put on the station is a morning show made up of millennials. In fact, John Sebastian seems to know exactly what this audience wants: Lots of music and no hosts.
Sebastian is also intelligently programming a format that requires minimal expense on the product side of the building. Because it's reported that his station bills about 70% less than the other two rimshot FMs in that owner's cluster, he needs to watch costs. But because the station has a large measured audience... and despite less sought demographics.... they can make money with a frugal approach in my opinion.

Yes, that morning show would seem intrusive on a 60's based music format. As I am "in demo" myself, I listened a bit and found nothing wrong with the show. They obeyed all the "Morning Show Workshop" seminar bullet points, and have a nice feel to the show. But the topics were less relevant to a "senior" than to someone under 50.

So, if the show does not add value, it reduces the air time for music that does do that. Unless they see national revenue coming from the show, I'd say "why do it?"

This is the same morning show that made a deal with Emmis to get cleared in NYC on 98.7. So they're doing some creative salesmanship to break into Top 25 markets. That could mean some revenue sharing with the station to buy a clearance. It's not typically done, but it's always possible.

Update:

While the radio.SecureNetSystems (non-streaming) web player is still at the link (from the original post in this thread),
the direct streaming path/address has changed and *is* streaming.
New direct streaming address for KXEG 1280/96.1
(should open in most browsers in addition to being able to be plugged in to media players):

The station also runs John Tesh in the late afternoon/early evening, which I tolerate less than The TJ Show (which I still think doesn't fit with the format). Both shows they still play "MeTV Music" in between the segments. They're don't have local advertisers yet (they're only running the barter ads for each syndicated show). If they do things right, they have the opportunity to get businesses in the Northwest Valley which can't afford to advertise on The Wow Factor to sponsor the station.

Also, what is up with the audio quality on KRPH 99.5? It sounds like they're only passing the left audio channel through, making songs from the '60s (which had instruments and vocals mixed on separate channels) sound off.

I know he's based out of California, so among all the station he is contract engineer for, I believe KRPH might be low on his priorities. The station should have a contract engineer based in AZ.

Also, the 96.1 translator has MAJOR buffering issues. Don't know if they're using the tower site's preferred internet provider, but AM 1280 doesn't have as many issues with that. The station has an email at the MeTV FM landing page, but they're not answering.

theyre using Starlink at the KRPH site.

Tom has a business connection to owner Jeff chang.. i dont know if hes just employed as jeff's contract engineer or theres a business interest beyond that since tom has ownership in a tv station that jeff isnt connected to.

So, KRPH may be simulcasting the same programming as KXEG/K241CS, but have different engineers, am I correct?

I can name at least one local contract engineer, but I don't know if KXEG is a client. If they want people to listen, they need to fix the buffering issue on K241CS. Don't know if they're also using Starlink or some kind of fixed wireless carrier on Shaw Butte, but these technical issues need to be taken care of so that potential listeners don't tune out right away. The bugs need to be worked out before any official launch.

no, and i didnt say that.... and i think its 1280/96.1 simulcast KRPH.. tom seemed to indicate thats where the programming was coming from....

I think they ran into some issues they didnt expect... tom is a very bright engineer.

I'm not sure how long term this is... it may just be to keep things warm till a buyer is found. dunno

since you see mto have good ideas, contact tom, since you seem to know what should be done.

Awww, is John Tesh so bad? I think he's doing a decent job. 20-30 second segments of helpful info. Maybe four times an hour? A friendly voice.

I think that's better than just music with no personality.

I tuned into KXEG this afternoon and now it seems they're back to being a repeater for KNNR. Anyone know what's going on?
They've been having major technical issues with the 96.1 translator. Audio sounded like a continuously buffering internet stream for more than a week. 1280 was the same way, but not at the extent as 96.1. I don't understand why they switched back to simulcasting Reno unless it was that they didn't want to broadcast just dead air while they try and fix the buffering problem.

99.5 FM on the west side was still broadcasting MeTV Music earlier (still passing through left channel audio only), and they're still streaming (link above) in full stereo.

Interesting. I really only listened on 1280 and that was coming in fine the whole time. No buffering to speak of. Good to know that this won't be the end for MeTV
