Miami/Fort Lauderdale 93.5 on 2 HDs. Why?

93.5 Revolution Radio Miami has long been a translator (plus two out of market regular stations). They are now on WMIA-hd2 AND WSFS-hd4? Does anyone know why? WMIA and WSFS have virtually identical coverage. Incidentally, the hd4 doesn't sound nearly as bad as most hd4 stations.

Revolution Radio has long been the only commercial station I have heard promote the hd "digital" signal in addition to the translator.

I was going to write a post about about 93.5 is on 104.3 Hd 4

I'd be more interested to know why it comes in clear in west Broward when they forfeited their Lauderdale license and the nearest stations are a Miami translator and a far-flung Palm Beach County signal.

It’s easier to keep 3 signals synchronized than 4. WZFL is in the Keys and that might be what you’re hearing. W228BY wouldn’t make it that far

For whatever the reason, 93.5 has always had a surprisingly good signal in Broward. I can't figure out if it is the Miami translator, the Belle Glade station or the Islemorada station. My gut tells me it is the Miami translator as it seems to get stronger and stronger as you head South from West Palm into Broward.

Whatever it is, it's clear enough to use in Wilton Manors. Especially since it is the only analog station running a dance music format.

Is it possible that Revolution is operating the W228BV translator unlicensed? Or running one of their other signals above licensed power? I'm in a fringe area at best for all three of their stations and there's not even any flutter in the signal.

Why would revolution want to expand so much with so many transmitters? Why not try other formats? Their only competitor is Party 93 hd2
I have not seen neither station on Nielsen charts

Perhaps their lease for 93.9 HD2 is coming to and end and will be moving to WSFS-HD4 fully when done

Because they don't subscribe to Nielsen so they won't show. The purpose of the multiple signals is so they have synchronized coverage on 93.5.

They turned in that license to reduce interference

In their W228BY translator OTA broadcast's Legal IDs, they currently only mention WSFS 104.3 FM HD4 and they no longer mention WMIA 93.9 FM HD2, so we'll have to see what happens on 93.9 WMIA-HD2

Any update on WMIA-HD2?

I just did a quick check with my Sangean HDR14.

WMIA-HD2 is still Revolution 93.5 (HD3 is 104.7 W284CS - 104.7 The Bull - Country) in addition to WSFS-HD4 (HD2 is 790 WAXY - Radio Libre 790 - Spanish conservative talk and AC music, and HD3 is 95.3 W237BD and 96.9 W245BC - The True Oldies Channel)

I've always been suspicious at how well 93.5 comes in in central Broward.

I'd like to know the explanation for how signals based so far from western Broward can somehow combine and be picked up by the radio in my bedroom with zero interference. Same thing on my car stereo. If there's some feat of engineering they managed to pull off I'd love to hear about it.

My guess is that you are picking up the Belle Glade signal. I know that Radio-Locator is not always accurate, but check out the map. WBGF-FM Radio Station Coverage Map

Western Broward is all in the Distant or Fringe part of the signal. In fact, in NW Broward, the signal is better than it is in West Palm Beach.

I can say for sure the WBGF signal is barely audible in West Palm Beach after listening for myself at Okeechobee and 95 earlier this week.

I'd say hearing it at my house near Tamarac, indoors, on a Bose radio with no external antenna, with no flutter or fading, is a soft maybe in my estimation.

I base this on trying to pull in 93.5 when they had a rock format and were calling themselves 'The Bar' and it was choppy at best on my car stereo.

Seems odd that Revolution would come in crystal clear.

Oh, I agree. I have always had trouble picking up WBGF in West Palm. It's very choppy in South County as well, from Lake Worth south. I enjoyed the Bar's format and always wished it had a better signal.
