Veronica Carter is New Co-Host on KOGO Mornings

https://news.****************/artic...o-Welcomes-Veronica-Carter-as-Morning-Co-Host

Effective immediately, Veronica replaces LaDona Harvey who announced her exit from KOGO earlier in August.
Ted Garcia continues as morning co-host.

Carter was most recently at KXL Portland with previous stops at WBBM 780 Chicago, KFBK Sacramento, FM 101.1 News Chicago + KPAY Chico.
She also had been iHeartMedia West Coast Regional News Director until joining KXL in June 2020.

Good for Veronica! I hired her at KFBK. Very talented and very good people.

I heard Ted and LaDonna this morning. Have not heard Veronica yet.

I last saw Veronica on Facebook yesterday, driving herself, two dogs and a loaded minivan to San Diego.

LaDonna agreed to do the show remotely from iHeart's Phoenix studios until Veronica could make the move.

Thanks for the update, Michael.
La.Donna’s hiatus (I’m assuming she’ll come back to radio when she can) raises an interesting question: With LaDonna leaving KOGO, I assumed Ted Garcia would handle morning news solo, since IHeart has so many recent layoffs. I’ve heard both anchors work solo when their radio partner was on vacation. As a veteran radio and tv news anchor, Michael and others, why do you think KOGO is replacing LaDonna? Most companies (not just radio) reduce layoffs through attrition.

The KOGO Morning News is a four-hour show. That's a lot for a solo anchor. And a lot of the show's appeal is the chemistry and conversation between Ted and LaDonna.

When the 1,500-person January 2020 iHeart layoffs hit, I was out because I was co-anchor of a three-hour afternoon newscast. Our four-hour morning news team wasn't touched. I've been told since that if we'd been doing four hours instead of three, I'd have been safe.*

Veronica did first-rate work in every capacity at KFBK. I hired her to produce the morning newscast, but she wore every hat imaginable and when corporate took over the newsroom and I passed on West Coast Regional News Director to continue anchoring with Kitty O'Neal, she was the ideal pick for Regional ND and did a stellar job.

We tend to discuss iHeart like it's a monolith, but when it comes to news at iHeart, there's one guy who matters more than any other---Chris Berry, Executive Vice-President of News, Talk and Sports Programming. If you work in any of those areas at iHeart, even if you've never met him or heard his name, you work for Chris Berry.

I'd be willing to bet lunch that as soon as he learned he needed to replace LaDonna, Veronica was the first name on his mind.

(*In hindsight, I'm glad it worked the way it did. I met some great people and woke some dormant talents I had working for CapRadio, and the pay was better. I probably wouldn't be retired yet if I were still at 'BK.)

I just hope it stays a straight forward news program. KOGO's Morning News is the only time I can stomach listening to this station. Otherwise, its Conservative talk the rest of the day.
