RIP, NBC Sports Chicago

Have they officially signed off yet? Their web page is still up, but hasn't updated anything since yesterday afternoon. Would I be right if Chicago sports news from NBC would appear strictly on the Channel 5 website, after today?

Tonight at midnight:

I think the other NBC RSNs will soon follow. Wider view reported here:

The business for linear 24/7 RSNs is over. Killed by the cord cutters. It made sense with cable. Not anymore.

I think NBC Sports Philadelphia has a chance of outlasting the others as Comcast owns Philadelphia Flyers and the Phillies own 25% of the network.

NBC Sports Boston has only the Celtics. Its schedule has been barren of any other live content other than radio-on-TV sports talk for some time now. NESN, which has the Bruins and Red Sox, seems healthier than most RSNs, and adding the Celtics doesn't benefit the Red Sox and Bruins (who have ownership stakes in NESN) at all. What happens to the Celtics -- the NBA champions, remember? -- if NBCSB goes belly up?

Chicago Sports Network (CHSN) has taken over the NBC Sports Chicago web page. nbcsportschicago.com now redirects to chsn.com/info, with a partial list of channels.

Back to broadcast (on what was formerly a UHF station). Or could NBC shift the games to Peacock?
True for NBA Games yes to Peacock. The other teams affected by this are 76ers, Warriors and Kings. It’s a case of NBC transferring the broadcast contract from local to national rights.

The next NBC Sports affiliate to go away are NBC Sports California because they held the rights to A’s games when the team was in Oakland. The remaining teams NBC Sports have for Northern California are Warriors, Sharks, Giants and Kings. The NBA Teams broadcast rights are moving from local broadcast rights to National broadcast rights.

For NHL and MLB teams not sure how NBC Sports would respond to local broadcast rights.

So would only viewers in the teams' specific territories be able to watch the games on Peacock? Would there be an additional fee tacked on to the current monthly Peacock price for everyone, even if they had no interest in the teams?

I don't know if Peacock is something that can be localized. There are local/regional sports rights and national rights. Two separate rights fees. So if they can do a local/regional breakout of Peacock, then it wouldn't affect the national. I have a regional sports plan, and when I travel, access to that sports plan is blacked out.

The Blackhawks game on CHSN is airing on ESPN+. Good to know they got that arranged on time.

First off, NBC Sports California is home not just for the Athletics, but the San Jose Sharks and Sacramento Kings. Unless something with those clubs is being worked on behind the scenes, don't assume the network is going away just yet.

I don't know the particulars of the A's contract with the channel, nor have I heard or seen anything stating they would leave the network after this year. But they are still a California team, at least for the next three seasons in Sacramento.

Then there is NBC Sports Bay Area, which has the SF Giants and the SF...i mean, Golden State Warriors. All of those situations need to be worked out before NBC shuts those RSNs down.

I remember when RSN channels carried various sports to fill up their broadcast day (minus pro teams) with pro wrestling, Boxing, racing, etc.

That's still today. Bally Sports carries a lot of boxing, MMA and old NASCAR races, among other things, in their off hours.
