Iowa KDAO-FM Eldora, Iowa Completes Upgrade

Looks like KDAO-FM Eldora has moved from 99.5 to its new frequency of 92.9 and upgraded from 3kw to 6kw. Same tower location and height.

This paves the way for VCY Americas KVDI Huxley to move from 99.3 to 99.5 and upgrade to 50kw in the Des Moines metro. The CP was issued last year for this shuffle. The KVDI upgrade, once complete, will be the first new core signal in the City of this strength in a long time.

Happened Sept. 11th

Actually it looks like it happened on the 9th. Three weeks ago.
FB page implies "moving to" posts were made prior to the 11th, and the 11th is the first time "KDAO FM is now on...." showed up

And it appears they have applied to take KDAO-FM to a C3 using 13.5kw at 100m. Accepted for filing yesterday.

I often wondered how good the signal was in marshalltown before the upgrade, it looked to be a kinda rimshot but we know maps can be deceiving.

They also have a non comm they own in the same building, The Dove, as i recall.

It looks like with this application they can probably meet the spacing requirements. They comply with spacing to KIOA in Des Moines by 1 mile. All the others from co-channel out to 400/600 mhz are met with some mileage to spare. I never realized this little hidden gem of an allotment existed in central Iowa. Obviously it took some cash from VCY to make this happen for KDAO-FM but nonetheless a nice little upgrade. I would imagine they are going with 13.5kw to make sure to meet contour and RF requirements as those are issues are in addition to spacing. (KIOA being the most vulnerable here)

I didn't realize until recently they had the dove in the same building. It's rare to see an entity own both a commercial and non-comm though I know it's happened before.

There's a cluster in Poplar Bluff, MO who has liek 6 commercial stations and a non comm.

theres a full power commercial station in NE Mississippi that has a non comm as well.

I have to correct one of my assumptions above. They are seeking 13.5kw instead of 25kw due to short spacing with KATF 92.9 Dubuque. (I'm only an amateur engineer.)
