I’ll miss his intelligence
Perfectly said. I agree 100% with everything you said.I'll go against the grain and state that I didn't find the Jack and Spike show to be particularly appealing. KIRO does a pretty good job of pairing a conservative host with a more liberal host, which has worked well for KIRO so far in terms of keeping the programming balanced. This works well with Gee and Ursula. It formerly worked well when John was paired with Tom. I think the pairing of Jack with Spike may have been a bit too much of a juxtaposition compared to their other popular shows and hosts.
I gave the show a chance when it was first introduced. It wasn’t really my cup of tea. My introduction to the show was a segment where the hosts seemed to be making fun of some of the people who had been laid off from Amazon in Seattle. The segment included a play-by-play rundown of what it must be like for the privileged tech workers to be leaving their office for the last time. The main point being made was that the people being laid off weren’t really worthy of sympathy. I found that pretty distasteful, as I had experienced something similar (and I was far from being one of the workers getting paid a six figure salary). These comments came from Spike more so than Jack, so I think it’s important to mention that. I think something like that can easily turn a potential listener away from tuning in again in the future.
Beyond all of that, I found a lot of the opinions and analysis to be a bit juvenile at times. There was one notable segment where they were discussing the capture of someone who crossed the border illegally into Washington State from British Columbia. That’s a fair topic to discuss, but much of the discussion was focused on why anybody in their right mind would cross into the United States, and how we should all be trying to escape to Canada. I’m sure some people share that sentiment, but it doesn’t really seem like the kind of analysis that would fit with KIRO.
I wish Jack well in whatever he does next.

You hit the nail on the head. The drug talk got old very very quick. I think both hosts have some unique strengths, but it just wasn't a good fit for KIRO since the content came across as being rather unintelligent and uninformed (though I don't think either of those traits apply to the hosts themselves). Although we don't share the same political views, I regularly tuned into Spike's night show on KIRO. He brought up some interesting topics and had a different take than the regular lineup of hosts. After the passing of Dori Monson, Spike began filling quite often during the 12-3 slot, and then would often continue through the drive time slot as well. It was at that point that I began to find his style to be a bit grating. He definitely benefits from having someone else in the studio to balance out some of his perspectives (the same applies to Jack).I agree with this, very well said! Jack and Spike were not the best pairing. It was alway going to be difficult to fill that time slot after Dori Monson... You put it very well by - opinions & analysis being a bit juvenile. Often times it felt like Jack was bullying Spike and constantly correcting/nagging Spike, very argumentative at times. Very unbalanced. When they had Curly on with Jack it felt much more balanced and I could enjoy that rather than enduring the Jack & Spike show. Also, I could do without hearing about Jack's drug problems every show.
I enjoyed Jack's evening show but Jack & Spike together left me feeling frustrated.
