97.3 (CP) Richmond, Texas

I see where there is <still> a construction permit for 97.3/Richmond. Likely an intended translator signal for 980am in Rosenberg. Seems they have been kicking this around for a while now. Anybody know what the delay is getting that thing on? Not that I am looking for any sort of real groundbreaking community serving programming. Probably just more Radio Aleluya. But, it is nice to know what is going on my hometown, radio wise.

Gow Media has filed objections to the proposed translator in the past, claiming possible interference to KFNC. They even recruited listener testimonials in the planned service contour of the 97.3 translator to show the 97.5 signal had an audience in that area. Things seem to have been stalled since then.

Of course with the status of future Gow ownership of KFNC uncertain, things could change.

The translator is the same one that used to be on 100.7, causing much grief to KKHT. Chuck Tiller might have more background on this.

I'll tell you what if i was POWER (with the relationship ) They have with GOW they could purchase it and move it closer and launch a new format.

Salem attorneys went after them with proof of interference coupled with letters of complaint. My suggestion was to buy the old KFRD 980, now KQUE and turn it to KKHT, in addition to our FM which would improve coverage over west Houston and Fort Bend County. Lower the power on the FM translator to 10 watts or less. Of course, that didn't happen.

New *formats* on these low power coffee pots have not made a dent. Not one of them. Though I do think the ones that are utilizing them most effectively are the ones targeting the Middle Eastern culture. Those "HUM-FM" stations sound slick and are very well produced. Otherwise, it seems you need a daily scorecard with these damn things to see who owns what, what is being done with it, is it operating, and is it legal.

When will they learn that the word of Charles Calloway is that of a learned man. A man of expertise, breeding and refinement.

Those stations are targeting people of South Asian heritage, not Middle Eastern, though I am somewhat surprised we don’t have any Arabic or Farsi language stations here.

Vietnamese is well established here, though only on AM. KCHN is mostly Chinese language, also on AM.

I dunno Mr. Frog. HUM-FM sounds Middle Eastern to me...I hear them talking Bollywood, and Halal and that sort of thing. I really do find myself listening because they are slick, full of chatty personalities and local advertisers.

"Bollywood" is a combo of Bombay and Hollywood. Check a map - India is nowhere near the Middle East.
