Adios KCKY

For the FCC to know exactly when a station has been silent should be as simple as requesting copies of the transmitter check log, which I remember had to done hourly, writing down date, time, and initials. But then with the FCC and the way it is now...

KASA's request for a waiver of fines for operating the translator while its primary station was MIA is yet another joke. The shipment of their defective transmitter to Houston should have been done by Amazon. Guess no one in mgmt realized that electronic devices should be properly packed before postage is slapped on an oversized envelope.

A motion has been made (and seconded by Nurse Jeff) for someone to start on a new thread entitled: KASA's Excellent Adventure.

A great opportunity for expanding the Casa Grande Ruins by adding the KCKY Ruins next door. Imagine the traffic jam from all the additional visitors this would bring!

Maybe the Media Hut could start a petition to make this happen...
Yes indeedy. If motorists aren't going to the Ruins, they can swing by the KCKY ruins after visiting a loved one in the Florence Correctional Facility.

The departure of KCKY-AM leaves only three transmitters licensed to Pinal County; all three are on FM and two are full-power stations. All three are noncommercial (KCKY was also noncommercial for the last several years of its existance) with the two full-power stations having religious/Christian contemporary formats and the LP station (licensed to Eloy near the southern end of the county) having a community format. Unless you're living behind brick walls (a problem faced by some Florence residents who are forced to live there for good reason), most of the county is served (at least in terms of being able to hear the stations) by operations in both Phoenix and Tucson.

With regard to KASA, I'm glad to see that one go. Now, it will be easier for me in my north central Phoenix residence to pick up KUAZ-AM in Tucson when KJZZ has a pledge drive...

I count 12 licensed sites within Pinal County, 7 non-coms & 5 commercial, 4 more CP's 2 non-com and 2 commercial.

I'm old enough to remember when there were only 3 signals total:

KCKY (gone)
KPIN (gone)
KSTM (COL changed from Apache Junction to Sun Lakes, now KVVA)

I had forgotten that Apache Junction was in Pinal County, and I thought until now that Gilbert was inside Maricopa County. I had forgotten about KCDX--though its current transmitter is in Gila County, it is, in fact, licensed to Florence, regardless of the CP. I had also forgotten about the native American LP-FM licensed to Florence Community (really Florence) which is actually a full-time simulcaster of KOHN-FM in Sells, some, what--90 miles to the southwest? Finally, I usually don't include translators in my counts, because frankly, most of the time the stations they translate say absolutely nothing about the communities being served by those translators.

Still, that was a very good list and I thank you for supplying it.
