FM Frequency of the Week: 101.5

Carmichael, CA

KCCL Woodland

I loved listening to K-Hits before the flip, Sad no Classic Hits station in Sacramento anymore

Vallejo, CA

Nothing

Wilmington Delaware

Fringe signal from WKXW in Trenton NJ. Signal improves rapidly when heading up I-95 towards Philly. They used to simulcast on 97.3 in Millville NJ which gave them total coverage of NJ. They have the unusual format of talk on weekdays and music on weekends.

Other stations I've heard on 101.5 -

WVES Chincoteague VA with Adult Hits. It comes in along with other Delmarva stations on warm humid Summer evenings.

WBQB Fredericksburg VA. Comes in when reception is open to Baltimore/DC.

WRAL Raleigh NC. Very rare. May have only heard it one time.

East Tennessee-WQUT, Johnson City puts a decent signal into Knoxville. A few years ago someone fired up a translator and WQUT poked holes in it unless you were right under the transmitter. It was a case of a translator working on paper but not in the real world.

Local country outlet "101.5 KNUE" in Tyler, TX. 100kw @ 327 meters. When a storm knocks KNUE off air it's possible to hear KROX in Austin coming in at varying strength.

Hartland, VT:

Eclectic AAA WRSY Marlboro, full-time simulcast of WRSI Turners Falls, MA.

Meriden, CT:

Usually splatter from WKCI at 101.3, but strong tropo brings in classic hits WWBB Providence, RI.

Denver, CO - Local KSRC. Technically I'm receiving KSRC-1, a booster for the rimshot from the eastern plains. The booster is located in southeastern Denver proper. Pillar of Fire acquired the station in April and switched it to Christian contemporary under its "Star" moniker. Before that, KSRC and a sister station were the only ones in the market that would accept ads for marijuana merchants such as "World of Weed".

The booster works very well.

Central Kansas:
OK to weak signal from KMKF/Manhattan.

North Iowa:
Have received KKSI/Eddyville once, albeit weak. Surprisingly, KEMJ/St. James, despite being closer, only came in once at my location. Go just a bit north across the state line to Albert Lea and I’ve definitely received it a couple of times.

Much like iacd, Anwar and probably Ryan from Philadelphia, 'New Jersey 101.5' is the usual occupant here.
With periodic spot-checking it's the only FM station I can remember taking in the car radio all the way out I-78 from the South Shore of Long Island to out here.
Both terminals of the trip are a half-inch outside the blue contour on the map.

(O/T, but per se vis-a-vis the continuous-signal muse : The only non-NYC *AM* station I could ever check and hold for the entire route was ANOTHER New Jersey one -- WJJZ Mt. Holly on 640. They'd have their electrons hashed to smithereens near JFK on the Belt Parkway by WFAN 660 but emerge on the other side for the last 100 or so miles of the trip.

Clifton, New Jersey

I get WKXW "New Jersey 101.5" Trenton, NJ which airs Talk shows weekdays and Classic Hits weekends. I can also receive WPDH Poughkeepsie, NY in a few spots. Occasionally, I get W268BY Queens, NY which is an FM translator of 94.7 WXBK HD3 Newark, NJ and airs Korean-language programming.

DX/Retro: From 1984 until 1995, WMSC Upper Montclair, NJ broadcasted on 101.5 in between runs on 90.3. It moved back to 90.3 after accepting an offer from WKXW to move off of 101.5 in order to reduce interference. I have received WBQB Fredericksburg, VA and WKFY East Harwich, MA during tropo.

Very weak K268CU Boise (KKOO-AM) along the lakefront in Cascade. Often, KCVI Blackfoot will pop in briefly, as well as KATW Lewiston.

That's pretty cool, Michael! I didn't know about Montclair State being on 101.5! Was it as strong on 101.5 as 90.3?

I think so, probably even stronger. WMSC on 90.3 can be nulled out for either WQXW or WHPC on a good radio. When it was on 101.5, I was never able to null it out. However, WMSC used to sign off at 11pm most nights so I was still able to hear WKXW from late nights until early mornings.

North Georgia. WKHX Atlanta (Marietta COL ). Used to be Kicks 101 for decades but now "New County 101.5".

One market that Bobby Bones on iHeart's 94.9 has yet to conquer.
