Per the following story WZHF's relay of Radio Sputnik will end this week. It had been heard in Washington DC on 1390 and 105.5 . A Kansas City station (KCXL) also has been carrying it .

U.S. sanctions force Russia-backed Sputnik Radio off the air

The sanctions made it difficult for Sputnik to continue buying time on radio stations for its programs; some shows are closing up, while others are going on an indefinite hiatus.

"Radio stations in two markets will be dropping their affiliation with Russia-backed programming distributor Sputnik by the end of the week, The Desk has learned. The stations affected are two in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and three others in Kansas City, which have offered programs produced and distributed by Sputnik through time-brokerage agreements for a few years."

Observation: 1390 has a crummy signal but 105.5 has a nice reach.
 
The only thing shutting down is Sputnik's US based programming. The stations for now at least are continuing to carry their international programming.

By that I assume the U.S. stations will continue to carry the world feed of Radio Sputnik?

I’ve pretty much ignored RS in its current incarnation, as it is just shameless propaganda and misinformation. Visiting their website leaves one with an icky feeling; I would strongly recommend against “accept all cookies”.

Radio Sputnik actually has a long history, as it is the result of a 2014 revamp and reorganization of the old Voice of Russia international radio service, which itself was a 1993 rebranding of the old Soviet-era Radio Moscow, which dates back to 1929. Both those previous incarnations were pillars of sanity compared to the current RS.

Unless there is an illegal ownership issue, the FCC does not regulate political talk. It's sorta' about our Fist Amendment.
 
It is interesting how the television service "RT" or Russia Today, has been wiped from American viewing. At one time, it was carried on my Time Warner system. Some radio hosts such as Thom Hartmann and Ed Schultz had shows on the channel. Even Larry King had a program on RT after he and CNN parted ways.

Now it's not available from any cable or satellite service I know of. And you can't get it from You Tube as you can Al Jazeera English, France 24 English and other international news feeds. American political leaders of all parties have criticized RT for its slanted coverage of news. Maybe Radio Sputnik is so small, few politicians are speaking against it.

Yup. The American version of RT closed down abruptly after the invasion of Ukraine. I guess the world feed should be live on their website. The Spanish version is quite popular, as it got OTA carriage in Latin America thanks to the Russian political intervention in Latin American politics. It's one of the only two foreign channels allowed to Cuban population (the other is Telesur), and it's in Argentina all over the country thanks to Putin's friendship with former president Fernández de Kirchner.
Despite RT spewing propaganda against the current Argentinian government, nobody has bothered to take it off the aire as Argentinians watch mostly cable TV, or DirecTV.
Coincidentally, Radio Sputnik has just bought a FM radio station in Buenos Aires, FM Concepto 95.5, whose building is located really close to the presidental residence.
 
I'd love to see the 'good ratings'. Generally it makes money for the station that leased Sputnik the airtime.

For MarkW who proposes cancelling the licenses of stations running the programming, let's play fair. Then you should be banned from this site for such a post. Fair is fair, right?

That poor station in Kansas City runs enough from all their clients to cover expenses. Luckily the engineering is free and the owner runs it without taking a paycheck (and he's the engineer). In brokered time radio, you only have to like the check that clears and sometimes that's all you like.

That's an absurd analogy. I am not spreading propaganda of a United States enemy nor am I funded by any such entity.
 
It's no more absurd than you saying their licenses should be revoked. These stations are not being funded by an enemy of the USA. The stations are selling time. In fact, the entity buying the time is a registered business in the USA. For you to suggest revocation of the licenses is sort of a Putin kind of thing versus American sort of thing. It's sort of like the KKK marching in town. As much as you dislike them, they have the right to do so so you don't violate their rights.
