Can you please link to a clip or something, so we can all figure out what you're talking about? The SportHub franchise player evidently had said something about Gen X or Z. I couldn't pick up which? Anyway...TM was sincere at end of 2pm hour, whatever it was about, in this prepared "it will never happen again" speech.
I believe he absolutely knew it was a racial slur, and said it anyway.Even if he didn't know, why are you insulting two entire generations of people when you yourself keep making stupid and ignorant mistakes?
He’s probably going to get justifiably fired. That he wasn’t fired the first time, when he made the comment about the two black guys, is surprising.
I’m also 40 and I haven’t seen the word before either, but with the article explaining that it’s a racial slur, that’s why. If if any of us said that at our jobs (whether in radio or not), after we’d said what Maz said a year ago, we would probably get fired or at the very least suspended, no matter where we are in the US or worldwide.I'm 40, and this article was the first time I've ever seen that word.
He's not getting fired.
If someone says something to you that’s a racial slur and you get upset, it doesn’t matter what the person’s intent was.He shouldn't face anything at all. Never heard of the term, no harm to listeners and no intent to do anything, so chill.

I have been involved with ethnic broadcasting since 1959, and, although not directly close to Asian communities, I have never heard that term. It is very easy for me to think that Massarotti had no idea of what the term meant back in the 50's and 60's.According to the New York Post, during Wednesday’s show with co-host Michael Felger, Massarotti offered a description of Gen-Z, saying, “I’ve determined, incidentally, that the ‘Z’ stands for ‘zipperhead.'” The word zipperhead is a slur used against people of Asian descent that came to prominence during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
I'm a 'Nam Vet ('65-66) and that is a new one on me. GEEZ!
As mentioned in another post, in 65 years in radio and even more on the planet, I have never heard that term.I believe he absolutely knew it was a racial slur, and said it anyway.

Radio personalities often invent or make up nonsense terms. It's part of the process of creating a show. What do you think he meant by it?
I worked in a defense plant in the 1980s. Many of the employees were Vietnam and Korean War veterans. The "Z word" was in common use back in those days by said veterans, especially after the company started hiring Vietnam refugees in 1981. Getting caught using it officially meant instant unemployment, although I don't remember anyone getting fired for it. In any case, I haven't heard the word used by anybody since I left that company in 1989, and don't care to hear it again.According to the New York Post, during Wednesday’s show with co-host Michael Felger, Massarotti offered a description of Gen-Z, saying, “I’ve determined, incidentally, that the ‘Z’ stands for ‘zipperhead.'” The word zipperhead is a slur used against people of Asian descent that came to prominence during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
