Got a text from my dad in-market saying while he was listening today Gardner said it was his last show. I don’t know the circumstances in terms of retirement of budget cuts, or what he said on-air, but my dad described it as him “getting the axe”

Seems Bill Gardner (of KOOL 94.5 and Andre's brother) has been missing from the Phoenix market for quite a while now. Bill was also a commercial pilot so perhaps the radio gig just wasn't cutting it. Andre seems to have been very big on the Beatles.

Beasley’s stock is trading really low. They’re cutting the most expensive thing, employees. He’s not the first talented person on air of off air that Beasley has cut here in Philly or their other markets. I believe this is the third cut they’ve made recently. I was in big pharma when I was involved in a layoff that my company cut 10% of the company.

We all have our expiration date. Andre is an incredible professional and an ever better guy. His ratings were good. The stations ratings are good. Like the other big radio companies, Beasley is losing money. They were at risk to have their stock delisted before they did the reverse split stock trick to manipulate the price. Radio is failing. The future is bleak. Until the business and the financials change, guys like Andre will continue to be laid off.

A reverse split like a regular split, is not a "trick". It is an accepted process. And there is no "manipulation" either. Those are, again, accepted business processes and are neither deceptive nor improper.

Think of it as taking ten dimes to the counter and asking for a dollar bill.

Since Beasley is making cuts, I have to wonder if Pierre is next on the chopping block. I know he has a contract but they may choose to either not renew it or buy him out if things are that bad. Hopefully not.

As far as Andre goes, I hope he ends up somewhere, albeit his choices are probably limited here unless he chooses to work at some cookie cutter station for reduced wages. Plus, a talent like his would be wasted reading cards and hitting posts. It’s really too bad. Even though WMGK has a pretty repetitive playlist, I felt like he was whimsical and always added interesting tidbits and facts about the music and artists. I emailed him a couple of times complementing his Thursday afternoon countdowns and he always emailed me back to thank me. This is a great loss to local radio.
