October 6+ Ratings

That's a good observation, but I think the difference is that in LA, iHeart has another AM where it sticks its syndicated talk shows. In NY, they use that second AM for BIN.
The difference is that the second LA AM, 50 kw on 1150, is a pretty good signal. The BIN service is on a signal that competes for being about the worst in the NYC market.

At the time, I was surprised that IHeart bought WWRL instead of WLIB for BIN. I believe that WLIB has a considerably better signal than WWRL, especially at night. As I recall, the asking price for WLIB was only slightly higher.

The Research Director is not part of Lance Venta's services. Why would you expect him (and me) to promote it?

I didn't ask you to promote it. I asked Big A, who is just a regular member here, to consider including it next time because that's what members normally do in these threads.

I am well aware that this is Lance's site and helps promote his RadioInsight. That's why whenever I start one of these ratings threads myself, I always link to his highlights article first, as well as direct links to the 6+ New York, Middlesex/Somerset/Union and Nassau/Suffolk ratings on RadioInsight.

That said, is forum is about... (checks website name)... radio discussions. And in these discussions, we constantly talk about demos and why the 6+ ratings are nothing but "beauty show" numbers. So, if we are to discuss the in-demo ratings, the only reference we currently have for that is the Research Director blog and there is a long history of posting a link to the relevant blog post in these ratings threads. I always put it at the end of my opening post, after I have listed all the RadioInsight links, and I often summarize the in-demo highlights without directly quoting from the Research Director's article.

Then bookmark it and go there when the ratings analysis is offered. Simple.

Of course I have it bookmarked. But what about new users, infrequent users or guests? They probably don't have it bookmarked. So it is quite helpful to have a link to it in the thread so we can all be informed as to what we're talking about. I never asked you or Lance to do it. I suggested it to a forum participant.

Now, if you want to ban linking or mentioning it that's your right, you're the moderator. Or Lance's right since he's the owner. And I'll respect it. Or maybe I'll just stop participating if there's going to be that kind of censorship.

I should probably step in here and mention that the reason I am now only posting the link to Research Director is that Lance asked me to do so instead of summarizing it. Given how long we have been acquainted I am happy to comply.

What I would like to see as well, though, is people linking to RadioInsight for the 6+ numbers rather than to his competitor. (Someone please tell Henry Ochs that.)

I wonder if WABC got some of WCBS's exiled listeners. WINS hardly gained anything from the loss of WCBS.

Frankly, as a former regular WCBS morning listener I find WINS intolerable in the morning. It's OK during the rest of the day but the morning hosts waste so much time hamming it up and there's so much fluff instead of actual news. I guess they must be under orders to be "entertainers", not news anchors. That's bad enough on its own but god help us if much of the WCBS audience went to 770 for "news".

WINS got some nice bumps in suburban books

Nassau/Suffolk (Long Island) NY (Market #21)

5.25.25.04.74.95.6WINS-FM1010 WINS on 92.3NewsAudacy319,300

Middlesex/Somerset/Union NJ (Market #42)

2.22.02.62.02.22.9WINS-FM1010 WINS on 92.3NewsAudacy139,300

The ratings distance between 770 and 710 is surprising. WOR finished tied at #18. WABC has more than three times the listeners.
I believe the reason why 770 is doing better is because of Oldies weekend which alot of people tune in. Without it, WABC wouldn't be that high.

It’s a good point but I never considered 770 WABC as the new home of Former News Radio 880 AM listeners. Their News presentation is erratic & sounds like a college station.

Yes, I am in Los Angeles and currently listening to their Oldies music. And if I miss a show I will listen to a podcast at work during the week.

Weekend evening ratings have nearly no effect on the total week ratings. Most of that comes from 6 AM to 7 PM, Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday evenings have such low radio usage that even if they had a 50 share it would barely affect the full week ratings.

WINS leads all news and news/talk stations based on cume:

Not sure why WABC isn't listed. It's cume of 560,200 should be enough to rank in the Top 10.
It's not a solely news radio station since it has music shows on weekends
