K-LOVE shifts

EMF translator K205BM (88.9), targeting San Francisco and parts of Oakland, and KLVS-HD3 are running a loop telling K-LOVE listeners to shift their listening to one of the other K-LOVE channels in the Bay Area. The 75-second announcement indicates that K205BM and KLVS-HD3, as well as K265CV Fremont (100.9), will be switching “soon” to Radio Nueva Vida, “Christian music and more in Spanish”.

The message urges listeners to tune to one of: KLVS (107.3) Livermore, K281CU (104.1) San Francisco, KLVR (91.9) Middletown for the North Bay, or KJLV (95.3) Los Gatos (the former KRTY). The 88.9 signal is highly directional. I could barely receive it at my old location in the Oakland hills but it’s just about a local signal at Emeryville near the Bay.

The RDBS on 88.9 currently says “K-LOVE 90s”.

Last week (or maybe the prior week), there was a day when K205BM must have been off the air, because KXPR came booming in from their new transmitter/tower in Sacramento. Where I am in the Peninsula hills, that signal was clean and 5x5. It was really nice not to have 88.9 gunked up with that crummy little translator repeating the same K-LOVE programming that seems to be available on a half dozen other channels in the Bay Area.

I’m a little surprised by that. I lived a couple of miles away from it and it was so directional that I could hardly receive it. I had erroneously said earlier that K205BM was on the KPFA tower on Grizzly Peak Boulevard. It’s actually on another tower nearby.

Also in error: I should have written RBDS, not RDBS. Too close to DBMS and I was quite tired from travel.

It just came to mind that, as far as I know, no one is currently doing a Spanish-language religious format of any type in the Bay Area, or at least the central Bay, i.e. SF, Oakland, Berkeley, etc. EMF may see an opening here. They will be dedicating the strongest signal they have in Berkeley and parts of Oakland to such a format.

A change of primary station notice was filed by EMF today. One can thus assume that this change was very recent.
