The collapse is almost complete: Diamond Sports Group Plans to Drop All MLB Teams Except Braves
The reality is the broadcast fees for these teams are way too high. The question is who takes the haircut? MLB? The teams? Because local TV stations can't pay these kinds of fees for local broadcast rights.
They won’t have enough guaranteed money counting on streaming. They need those cable contracts with the profits baked in ahead of time.I suppose the teams will try to recoup some of the lost revenue by only putting some games on local TV (however many the stations can afford for the rights) and the rest on a team-run pay streaming service.

Not sure how MLB would compensate the teams for this, though. Maybe a kickback of some of the national ad revenue?
Not to drift this thread too far, but did you notice that MLB.TV now includes a 24/7 simulcast of the MLB Network? I guess this is a peace offering to fans who subscribe to MLB.TV and YouTube TV but have been unable to watch MLB Network on YouTube TV since negotiations over continued carriage broke off last year.Keep in mind the MLB Network uses the local broadcast teams when they air a lot of the games. Bob Costas does one "showcase" game a week. But MLB said they were prepared to take over everything when this bankruptcy situation began. I bought the MLB streaming package and all those games use the local TV announcers.

Why would they give away something for free that they are trying to get money from in the same company. Not to drift this thread too far, but did you notice that MLB.TV now includes a 24/7 simulcast of the MLB Network? We'll see if it lasts beyond the current postseason, and if it does, if the freebie goes away before the 2025 season starts. My sense is it's temporary.
KTVT/KTXA would be out since they are about to be sold. KFAA would be the logical choice since they can clear the inventory. The only factor remains will they be able to pull a network together for cable/satellite and OTA. Would the upfront investment of buying the assets of North Texas Region of BSSW be viable in the long run. In other words, would Ray Davis and the ownership group pull that string and buy those RSN assets. It seams a partnership would be in play with TEGNA or NBCUniversal..(KXTX could help there with the Spanish rights??)The Rangers are looking for a new TV home as they now officially severed ties with Bally Sports Southwest, the may either join the Mavs on WFAA/KMPX (soon to be KFAA) with the Mavs or join the Stars on Victory+ or create a new RSN buying out the remaining Bally Sports Southwest assets and launch a new RSN, possibly with either NBCUniversal (owners of KXAS NBC 5), TEGNA (WFAA channel 8/Soon to be KFAA channel 29) or Paramount Global (owners of KTVT CBS 11 and for now KTXA 21) being a partner.
No More Bally Sports Southwest For Texas Rangers, But Television Future Remains Unclear
If and when both NYC baseball teams, Boston Red Sox, Phillies and Orioles leave RSNs behind to return weeknight and Sunday afternoon games to Broadcast Television
