Grace Broadcasting (Jackson, TN) Sells

A group called "Liberty Radio" has purchased every radio station owned by brothers Charles and Lacy Ennis (Grace Broadcasting) including 93.1 WTJS-FM, 101.5 WNWS-FM, 105.3 WTJK-FM, and several other stations in Humboldt and Covington. They also have stations in Camden and Corinth. The plan is to have a statewide network of stations under the "Liberty Radio" umbrella.

A published report says a handful of e-mails and calls from on-air talent and news-gathering staff let the new owners know they were quitting, and leaving the station(s).

Hmmm. I hope all that air talent and news staff have a place to go. There's not near as many job openings these days. Seems like a bad idea.

Not sure what Liberty Radio is but if I had to guess, I'd say Conservative Talk or more like the talk shows that advertise the MREs and stuff like that. Then again Liberty Radio might be a Christian network. At any rate I'd wait to see what hey do but be hunting up offers now just in case.

"The Jackson Post" website and Facebook page have stories about it they put up on Sunday 11/10/24. You can read more about it, there.

I literally stopped reading the article when I got to this quote:

"I feel that radio is still a very viable means of communications, and there are others who think that too or George Soros wouldn't have worked to acquire more than 200 of them"

Ah, yes, serving up the George Soros boogeyman. Tells you all you need to know about the new owners.
I think he was trying to infer that a billionaire investing in radio means radio is still viable. A billionaire usually didn't get and stay that way without some investment savvy and foresight.

No he wasnt.. because theres been an uproar about the soros agenda with the stations he now "owns"

How does that make sense? He was clearly making the case that radio is still a viable investment or billionaires wouldn’t be still getting in. How can that be a political reference unless you make it one - he is just agreeing with Soros that radio is still viable. No mention anywhere of any “agenda” because Soros doesn’t control, own, or program anything - it is just a comparison of investment wisdom.

There is a conservative talking point that Soros has been allowed to own American radio stations. I think that is what Mediafrog is referring when he mentions reading the Graceland article and stopping at reading Soros worked hard to acquire 200 American radio stations. Mediafrog quit reading because that 'owns' attached to Soros is an element of the talking point of the conservative. That told Mediafrog that Graceland was doing Conservative Talk.

How would he know that Liberty wasn’t a liberal/progressive outfit totally agreeing with the Soros investment by what was written? Was it the word “Liberty”? Soros has applied waive foreign ownership rules so why is the word “own”a problem? It was a quote about the wisdom of buying multiple radio stations and he pointed at Soros as an example of a billionaire recently investing millions in radio. Billionaires as a whole got that way by having great business sense - how many news articles do you see about what Warren Buffet is doing investment wise? Lots of them - if he makes a move it is news. Why? Expertise or perceived expertise based on prior success - just like Soros.
