Two questions:
Is the success of a station based on doing well in certain demographics, and if so, do the same groups apply as they do in the US?
And are there stations that do not subscribe to these ratings? I see that Magic 87.8 FM in Perth is not listed.

Same rules apply here as they do in the US as far demographics. Most these days are heavily chasing the 25 to 54 demo, in one way or another.
Community radio doesn't get surveyed. Religious broadcasters, and other non profit groups are counted as community broadcasters.

Triple M doesn't seem to get big ratings in over 65's. Don't they like rock music anymore? Hasn't Triple M been around since the early 80s, when those folks were in their 20s-30s?
Also, ABC stations were lower rated than I thought they would be. Seem to do well in the older demos.... Sort of like NPR here in the US.
Interesting breakdowns, though. Thanks for posting this. Never been to Oz, but grew up on Oz music and have friends over there. I used to hear 6WN Perth when they still had a SW outlet to the Northern West Australian outback. Fond memories, of the overnight guy there playing Flowers (Icehouse) and the La De Da's (Borich era La De Das).
