Tecsun PL-880 issue

I'm having an issue with this radio and was curious if anyone else has. Yesterday it worked fine. The next time I turned it on it showed the correct frequency with no audio. The power switch was not responsive. I took the battery out, then back in and pushed the switch. It powered on and worked fine. A few days ago while powering it on, it displayed the "On" but froze up and didn't work. I powered it off and back on and it worked. When I first got it the display light wouldn't come on, so I did a reset and that cured it. Fortunately by taking the battery out didn't lose any frequency memories. Does this sound like a microprocessor problem?
If anyone knows of a PL- 880 forum please let me know. Thanks for any responses!

Mike, I would recommend you post your issue in the Radio Reference forum. (www.radioreference.com) There are many radio enthusiast there that are hobbyist at DX'ing radio stations, Amateur Radio operators, commercial communication facilitators and the like. When I saw your post, I had to check to make sure I wasn't in the Radio Reference forum, for your post is exactly the sort of post I would expect to see in that forum.

The batteries are a few years old but seem to take a charge like they should. Sometimes one of them won't charge up to 4.25v, but still works as it should. It seems like a " hiccup" type issue.

Does it happen when the batteries have been run for a while, i.e. when the battery meter dips down a couple bars?

I had a BL-5C that started acting up on my Grundig G2 when the meter (four bars max) went below one bar. The radio lost its settings, and started acting weird when I turned it on. Recharging the battery, and a reset fixed the issue. The battery in question was manufactured in 2012. I since bought some newer BL-5C's, but I still use the older one from time to time. I just recharge it / replace it with a newer battery when the meter hits one bar.

My conclusion -- old rechargeables are best charged sooner than when the battery meter hits one bar. That's my rule, anyway. I think they tend to glitch -- or 'hiccup', as you put it -- when they get older. They'll still work. Just charge them sooner, or get some new batteries and use the older ones as backups.

I agree with what you said. It could also be that the software is prone to glitches. Like the display light that originally worked, then didn't, and was cured by a reset. I don't let the batteries get below 3.6v.
