LMN TAKES OVER KLAT

1010 Is no longer simulcasting 93.3. They are running a mix of Hits, but the signal sounded great today. No local talents are expected for a while.

LMN has had control of KLAT for almost two years. They just hadn’t done anything with it up to this point.

KLAT is still on its daytime-only STA after losing the night site six months ago. Apparently they still don’t have the day site reconfigured for the night operation CP. I’ve been hearing WJXL in Jacksonville, Florida on 1010 at night.

Any idea if the music is just filler before the “real” format launches?

it was a mix .. Heard Tigres de el norte and some Luis Miguel. Sounds like it's the real format. Not sure what kind of an impact this AM can have on the overall LmN operation, but my guess is they will soon realize how many Spanish options Houston has.

one thing is owning it and another is actually having control of it. They are not actually programming it so they control what is on the air

I have no idea why LMN thinks a music format will work on AM here. They clearly have no idea of what they’re doing, unless leasing a translator is in the works.
but my guess is they will soon realize how many Spanish options Houston has.
And those options are about to increase by a station or two in the near future.

Keeping an eye on LMN’s KFLC and KFZO in DFW. Changes about to happen there?

Listened to KLAT for a short while this morning. Only sort of branding I heard was “1010 AM” and “Always the hits” (in Spanish). Mix of international Spanish language AC and Regional Mexican.

Audio sounds good; had been rather rough on the TUDN programming.

As David as mentioned, Univision looked at getting translators for the AM's it had during the translator window, and none (or almost none) of the available translators would've put enough of a signal into high density Hispanic areas to make a difference. In other words, even leasing a translator isn't going to help much, if at all.

And a station taking network / syndicated shows does not have "control" over it? All LMN did was take a syndicated network source from Univision and put it on some of their stations. They have apparently decided that a national sports format is not effective, and are looking at other formats and options. But it was their choice, so they had control over it because they were they owners.

Since the viability of La Grande 104.5 might be in question, especially when SBS finally takes over 92.1, I had wondered if that translator could be a possible option for KLAT.

Which is why I’m keeping an eye on KFLC in DFW, which has been TUDN the past several years.

Speaking of which... what are we... 10 days away?
Eight days away from the KROI closing, assuming it isn’t delayed yet again. Haven’t seen any filing for another amended APA…but this is SBS we’re talking about, and two large balloon payments were to be made on October 31 and November 27. SBS may still be searching underneath sofa cushions and car seats for loose change. Wouldn’t surprise me if the closing is pushed as late as March or April of 2025.

station was still at the univision building and LMN had to give them a 60 day written notice that they wanted to take over programming so that to me sounds like they did not have control.

it won't get delayed. Station already has Talents,PD, Morningshow and sales people ready to go.

Sure they had control. They signed a contract for a service and accepted the terms. Nobody forced them to sign the contract.

I think if that October 31st payment had been missed we would have seen another amendment filed by now. Hopefully Lance has a Domain Insight regarding KROI soon.
