KNSJ-FM Back On The Air?

I know everyone here dismisses KNSJ's rimshot signal, and KPFA-like ultra-liberal talk shows. But... I sometimes find them interesting. They had a very intelligent discussion this morning on the state proposition results, the national election, and what democrats might have done differently. Yes, KPBS-FM has a few shows like that too, but they veer into LGBTQ rights and transgender stuff too often for my taste. The rest of the San Diego talk dial is just the same old tired right-wing stuff I've heard for 30 years. Anyway, just my 2 cents. And no, I don't work for KNSJ or donate to them.

That was East County Magazine:

Another marginal outfit on the brink of running out of gasoline fumes, as they have been since they have been in existence.

I didn't know the KNSJ social justice people have a CP for an LPFM that was granted back on 3/25. It's 50 watts at 106.1 FM. The antenna will be located at 2229 Bacon St. In Point Loma. On the application they stated no other broadcast interest. Hmmmm.....

There was a previous objection filed by Entravision (KLNV), but that was dismissed.

It would appear, at least on paper, that Martin Eder may have signed some KNSJ paperwork that while he was, is no longer listed as an ooficer of the non comm that holds KNSJ's license. He is lsited on the paperwork as the president of the lpfm's license.

potato potatoe possibly, but ... thats what i found when digging trough fcc lms and Sec. of state records

IF the LPFM ever does sign on. It'll be interesting to see if they illegally rebroadcast KNSJ, or same programming but scheduled differently so as not to be an outright simulcast.

That address is actually in Ocean Beach, darn near sea level. And the hill behind it will shadow the signal in downtown San Diego, plus anywhere south or southeast.
It's an interesting location, a 2 story clubhouse for AA meetings, with a cannabis clothing store next door. So OB! 😀

I wouldn't be surprised if this CP ends up like so many of the others they file.... unbuilt, and expired.

The Dulzura NCE upgrade mentioned earlier in this thread has filed for a modification. It's dependent on the interpretation of the limits of an existing Mexican station. The request is for 7 kw ERP H-Only. Of further note is the EMF exposures far exceed the EPA limits so a fence has to be built around the transmitter site at some distance to keep everyone from roasting.

The proposed signal will miss most of Tijuana thanks to Otay Mountain's terrain blockage but certainly will reach into much of south-metro San Diego.

Summary at : https://fccdata.org/?facid=768226 (red-line)

Modification Here:

What a consistent train wreck that keeps on giving. Then they will be off the air again when winter weather will inevitably damages their antenna again followed by being off the air for months while they try to raise money for it to be repaired or replaced.

They must have spent thousands on that engineering report!

Just as it has been discussed previously, they need to stop playing amateur hour and go 100% streaming investing in a solid internet stream service provider and promote themselves like white in rice on the campuses of UCSD, SDSU. They could also get a way bigger reach as a digital subchannel through San Diego City College's KSDS-FM station.

But active knowledge, forethought, and real broadcast experience is most definitely not their strengths.

The proposed transmitter location actually isn't optically visible from anywhere within the SD metro (https://www.heywhatsthat.com/?view=NXLDCNB7), so I doubt they'd cover it. Maybe they intend to actually cover the 60 dBu contour with a booster.
